2022 Summer Pacific Committee Championships Recap
Pacific Committee Championships (July 15-17, 2022)
By now, you’ve all seen the fabulous report on our meet by one of our Meet Directors, Mel Kuo. This may have been the most fun and well-run meet the Pacific Committee has ever offered and it is all thanks to you, BCS Family!
The racing did not disappoint, either, yielding 17 new Summer JO cuts and a plethora of new best times and gutsy efforts. Overall, the team finished in 3rd (combined), with the Men in 2nd and the Women in 3rd. Congratulations, athletes!
Beach 1
Three was the magic number (shout out to Pythagorus) for the Beach 1 group at Pacific Committee Championships and these three brought the heat! HUGE swims to report below. Check it out!
Sellers Stough (9-10 Boys)
Mr. Stough achieved personal bests in 5 of his 6 individual races, including massive drops in the 100 Breast (-10.70), 200 Free (-13.53) and 50 Fly (-5.12) and a podium finish (3rd) in the 100 Back, (-2.41). This young man is able to do these amazing things because he works so hard. It is always rewarding to see hard work pay off. Now, he’s off to JOs this weekend in Riverside for some relays! Keep doing what you are doing, Sellers!
Ava Volz (9-10 Girls)
Miss Volz brought the water to a boil last weekend with her red hot racing, Finaling in 3 events and winning the B Final in the 100 Breast. 6 of her 7 individual races were best times, highlighted by huge drops in the 100 Back (-5.79), 100 Breast (-20.02!) and 50 Breast (-5.35). This up-and-comer will be one to watch for in future Championship meet action. Great racing, Ava!
Zack Wisniewski (9-10 Boys)
Mr. Wisniewski eeked out a birth in the Pacific Committee Championships with some great swims at the SCSL meet on June 25. This was his first Long Course racing and all he did was Final in each of his two individual races, the 100 Free (7th place) and 50 Breast (12th place). Onward and upward for this young multi-sport athlete. Way to go, Zack!
Beach 2
Beach 2 took a strong group of athletes to Pac Champs, and they represented Beach 2 and BCS superbly. In total Beach 2 had 6 athletes competing and they walked away with 27 new best times, 276 Individual points and 1 Summer Jo cut! Now that is a huge success, and I am immensely proud of the work these 5 athletes have put in this summer. I can’t wait to watch them race again!
David Arnold – 10 and Under boys
This was a breakout meet for David, all season he has been consistently dropping a second here and second there in his events, but Pac champs was a different story. David was dropping time all over the place in Prelims and then continued to drop even more at finals. David made finals in all of his events, where he walked away with 5 top finishes, one of those being a win in the 100 Back. David’s highlight though was his 100 Fr where he snagged his first Summer Jo cut! Congratulations David!
John Arnold – 10 and Under Boys
This was also a standout meet for John, and I can’t wait to see how he progresses after the break! John qualified for 6 finals over the weekend and he walked away with 4 new best times. His best events were the 200 Fr where he dropped a staggering 17s off his previous best, and the 50 Breast where he was agonizingly close to a summer Jo cut. John the future is bright and multiple Jo cuts will be coming your way soon!
Patrick Kipp – 10 and Under Boys
Patrick was red hot at Pac champs, he was entered in 7 events and he qualified for finals in all 7 events, and he walked away with 7 new best times! That’s no easy feat over a busy weekend. Patrick is knocking on the door of Summer and Spring Jo’s and I’m excited to see what he can achieve after our break. However, my favorite highlight for Patrick was his world-class team spirit. If he wasn’t warming up or down for his races, he was cheering on his beach 2 Teammates and asking the names of all the other BCS swimmers so he could cheer them on as well. Patrick, your future is bright in and out of the pool!
Madison Manalo-Pavach – 10 and Under Girls
Madison has come a long way since joining Beach 2 and during Pac comm her swimming was on full display. She walked away with 5 new best times and 3 finals swims, her biggest time drop was in the 200 Fr where she dropped 6.5s, she also managed to knock 3s off her 100 Fr time. Now her goals are set on qualifying for our next JO’s and I have a feeling her goals will become a reality very soon. Don’t stop smiling and having fun Madison, your swimming goals are well on their way to being completed.
Piper Sootkoos – 10 and Under girls
Another great meet for Piper is behind us and more are on the horizon. I’m excited to watch Piper compete in our relays at Summer Jo this weekend, she is the ultimate teammate. Not only is she swimming well, but she also showed off her world-class character. After realizing the timing chars were wet from warm-ups, Piper went out of her way to use her towel to dry every seat for the volunteer timers before prelims started. Way to go, Piper, thank you for showing everyone your world-class character. Your success won’t just come in the pool, they will come out of it as well!
Mateo Trombley – 11-12 Boys
This was Mateo’s first meet in the 11-12 age group, and it was his first time swimming in 3 weeks after being sick, and he still let the 11-12 boys know that he means business. I can only imagine what he would have done in different circumstances. Mateo left Pac Champs with 3 best times and 2 finals swims. His swim of the meet was his 100 Fly. During prelims, he knocked off 10s off his previous best. During finals he knocked off another 8s, dropping a total of 18 seconds in his 100 Fly! It was amazing to watch, and I cannot wait for him to race again!
Beach 3
This group has done some marvelous work this summer and it was quite a rush to see that work manifest itself in some top notch racing!
Santa Baranda (11-12 Boys)
Mr. Baranda was Mr. Butterfly last weekend, shaving nearly 4 seconds off his previous best in the 100 (9th place) and more than a second off his best in the 50 (16th place). He also threw down a monster 200 IM (-5.40 - 13th place) on his way to 7 best times of a possible 8. I was happy to see him make some significant leaps at this meet and improve his mindset before and after each race. Keep working, Santi!
Penny Chiu (11-12 Girls)
Miss Chiu has been putting “pennies” in the bank at every practice and it was satisfying to see her investment pay off. 7 of her 8 races were new best times, with her biggest drops coming in the 50 Fly (-2.67, 15th), 100 Free (-5.43, 14th) and 200 Free (-13.97, 11th). It was exciting to see her Freestyle improve so much, as that will only help her improve her finishing speed in her IM events next season. It truly was a gritty performance, with 5 races in the Finals on Saturday alone and another 4 races during Finals on Sunday, including a grueling back-to-back in the 50/200 Breaststroke, in the latter of which she dropped almost 6 seconds from her Prelims swim. To top it off, she contributed to two podium finishes in relays (400 Free - 2nd, 200 Free - 3rd). Very impressive effort, Penny!
Talia Cistone (11-12 Girls)
Coming off an illness, Miss Cistone fought back to grab 4 new best times in her 6 individual events, including her first ever JO cut in the 50 Breast! With two individual podium finishes (50 Breast - 3rd and 200 Breast - 3rd) and two relay podium finishes (400 Free - 2nd and 200 Free - 3rd), this was certainly a breakout meet for her. While it was certainly something to celebrate when she made her first JO cut, she knows that she has work to do if she wants to break through to that next level of competing and scoring at SoCal Swimming championship level meets. She also contributed to two podium finishes in relays (400 Free - 2nd, 200 Free - 3rd). Congratulations, Talia!
Annie Coyne (11-12 Girls)
For Miss Coyne, 7 of her 18 individual races this Long Course season came last weekend alone. She achieved 100% best times over two days of individual competition, giving her a much-needed boost of confidence going into the 2022-23 season. Standout swims came in the 100 Free (-4.91), 50 Breast (-4.42) and 100 Back (-3.97). Her best individual finish was a great Finals race to snag 10th place in the 200 Free (-5.60) and she raced to a podium finish (2nd) in the 400 Free Relay. Way to go, Annie!
Hana Imai (9-10 Girls)
Already qualified to race at JOs in Riverside this weekend, Miss Imai was hungry to add some more racing to her schedule and she did just that, bagging two new Summer JO cuts in the 100 Fly (-4.25 - 1st place!) and 200 Free (-3.35 - 2nd place), giving her a total of 5 individual swims in Riverside! With 100% best times and additional standout swims in the 100 Back (-7.12 - 6th) and 50 Back (-4.61 - 3rd), she did some real damage in the 9-10 Girls age group. This young woman is proof that a positive attitude and great effort are the key ingredients in a successful athlete. Looking forward to watching her work throughout the next several years. Top notch, Hana!
Hailey Kuo (9-10 Girls)
Miss Kuo, another of our Summer JO qualifiers, did some great racing at Pac Comm Champs as a tune-up for her championship meet. Her weekend featured massive drops in the 100 Free (-8.14), 200 IM (-9.72) and 50 Back (-2.97). She was breathing down the neck of those JO cuts all weekend, but wasn’t quite able to add another race to her schedule in Riverside, despite a very solid effort. She reached the podium in the 200 IM (3rd) and did not finish lower than 9th all weekend. “Joy” is a word that comes to mind when we watch her swim and it is always obvious that she loves what she is doing in the pool. Happy swimmers are fast! Well done, Hailey!
Keira Lyman (11-12 Girls)
Miss Lyman came on strong at the conclusion of the season, going 8 for 8 with best times in every individual race last weekend. She has beautiful strokes and, now, we are attempting to add that extra gear to her speed. It definitely showed up! Her best individual race was definitely the 200 IM (-10.32) and her best individual finish was in the 100 Breast (18th). She deserves a tip of the cap for her savvy proposal (along with her teammate, Kate L from Beach 4) to switch relay legs in the 400 Medley Relay, which led to the team’s 5th place finish. Really excited for the Short Course season, as I anticipate we will be seeing her at WAG Champs this December. Fierce racing, Keira!
Adelei Mosteller (9-10 Girls)
Miss Mosteller popped in on Sunday to race in what she perceives to be her “weak” stroke and absolutely smashed her previous best in the 50 Breast (-5.77) to snag a 3rd place finish and a new Summer JO cut. Seems like she has been a 10&Under for about a decade now, but she will age up in August, so we are looking forward to the challenge of the faster, more competitive 11-12 age group in the fall. Great race, Adelei!
Alyssa Tieman (11-12 Girls)
Miss Tieman, a multi-sport athlete, was only able to race one day, but she absolutely knocked it out of the park (a nod to her softball prowess :-). In three races, she posted three best times, improving from 7-11% in each race. Those are MASSIVE drops in this sport. Her biggest relative improvement was in the 50 Back (-5.59), which also happened to be her best individual finish (30th). On the relay front, she threw down a solid split as a member of the 5th place 400 Free Relay. Only 11, she will have another year in the age group and we are excited to see what she can do. Great effort, Alyssa!
Patrick Wang (9-10 Boys)
Mr. Wang was also tuning up for a full slate at Summer JOs this weekend in Riverside, racing what I would consider to be his “weakest” stroke, Freestyle. Well, maybe not anymore :-). He improved by 7-9% in his two races, 50 Free (-2.59) and 100 Free (-8.10), winning both events by a wide margin. Improved body position and stronger kicking have led to this leap in his Freestyle races and now we have to decide if we want to drop another race in favor of Freestyle at JOs this weekend. It’s a good problem to have :-). Fabulous effort to make these positive changes, Patrick!
Beach 4
Beach 4 was represented by four swimmers at Pacific Committee Champs this past weekend. Each swimmer has at least three best times. As a group, they scored 56 points individually and participated on many relays, also helping score points that way. Alex Miyashita was the lone JO qualifier in both breaststroke events.
Skye Engle had a full slate of events and achieved best times in 50% of those races. This was Skye’s first prelims/finals meet and after adding time in the morning for her 100 fly, she came back at night and crushed her swim, dropping almost four seconds and moving all the way up to 9th place. She was on all four relays, helping them place in the top-10 for all of them, including a second and third place finish.
Kate Landzdorf also had a fairly full slate of events, achieving best times in two of them. She also achieved a best time leading off the 400 Medley relay, the last race of her weekend. She was right on her best times for her other races. Kate was also on all four relays, helping them place in the top-10, including a third place finish.
Alex Miyashita swam seven individual races and was 100% on best times, ranging from a .43 drop in his 50 free, to 5.24 in his 200 free. He scored 47 points for the team individually. Alex made his first championship meet cuts in both the 50 and 100 breaststroke. He will be swimming those at JOs, along with representing the team on relays.
Kaia Weiss also swam seven individual events and achieved best times on five, and was just off her best times in the other two. She swam both the 200 free and 200 IM really well, dropping over six seconds in her 200 free and swimming a time only one second slower than her yards seed time in her 200 IM. She was on three relays, all of which placed in the top-10.
Beach 5
Beach 5 was out in force over the weekend at Pac Champs, we had a total of 13 swimmers competing. Beach 5 walked away with 29 new best times and a total of 398 individual points for the team. There were also 4 new summer Jo cuts snagged, two from Jake Everitt, 1 from Soraya Lluz, and 1 from Alejandro Safa! Beach 5 has had an amazing long course season, and they have one very proud coach!
Eryn Arnold – 11-12 Girls
This wasn’t Eryn’s focus meet for the summer, so she only swam one event at Pac champs and that was the 200 Breast, as they don’t offer that event at Summer Jo’s. It was a solid swim for Eryn finishing right off her best time from JAG, but it set her up nicely for some great racing next weekend. Eryn’s highlight for the meet though was helping stage the 50’s with Coach Melissa and helping time finals.
Jake Everitt – 13-14 Boys
Jake was swimming lights out at Pac champs, he made finals in all four of his events, he walked away with 4 new best times, and 2 Summer Jo cuts in the 200 Fly and the 400 Im. His hard work is paying off, and I have a feeling Summer Jo’s could be a huge success for him, where he will be swimming the 200 Fly again!
Meagan Gordon – 11-12 Girls
Meagan is also heading to Summer Jo’s next weekend, so she attended Pac champs to have one more shot at the 200 Breast, and she did not disappoint! After a solid morning swim where she dropped 3s off her personal best, she came back at night to drop another 4.5s, totaling 7.5s! Meagan is poised and ready to take on Summer Jo’s!
Zoey Lewis – 11 -12 Girls
Pac champs was a big success for Zoey, after being on vacation, she walked away with 4 new best times and 5 finals swims! Now her sights are set on Summer Jo’s and if she swims with the confidence I know she has, I have a feeling summer Jo’s will be a breakout meet for Zoey, great things are on your horizon, Zoey!
Soraya Lluz – 11–12 Girls
I was very impressed with Raya’s performance at Pac champs, she was 5 for 5 on best times, and she qualified for finals in 4 of her events. Her highlight was snagging her 2nd summer Jo cut in the 50 Back. So she will swim both the 50 Bk and 100 Bk at summer Jo’s, and I can’t wait to see her race. Raya, you are on the up with your swimming, let’s see where it can take you!
Marin Lohner – 13-14 Girls
Marin came into Pac Champs after fighting off a sickness, so for her to match her best times and final in the 200 Breast was a huge success. Her 200 Breast was a joy to watch; she executed the race plan to a Tee and swam a best time in prelims and then lowered it again at finals. However my highlight of the meet for Marin was her positive attitude, she was always smiling, and took every piece of feedback with intelligent answers and questions. I can only imagine what she could’ve done firing on all cylinders!
Gabby Nicholas – 13-14 Girls
Gabby came into Pac champs after having been out of the water for a month. She was able to swim right on her best times throughout the meet which is a huge feat. However, her best showing came on the last day which was arguably her hardest day. She was entered into the 200 Br, 100Fr, and the 1500 Fr, she made finals in all 3 events and dropped 9.6s in her 1500 Fr! Sunday was a true testament to her character, and I can’t wait to see what Gabby can accomplish after our break!
Olive Richmon – 13-14 Girls
This was Olive's first meet as a 13-year-old, and she was ready to rock n roll! She walked away from the meet with 2 new best times, her best race coming in the 400 Fr. Olive cracked the 5:20 barrier for the first time, and gave a big fist bump to the sky! I hope to see more reactions like that in the future Olive! Those distance events are calling your name, and I want you to answer!
Alejandro Safa – 13-14 Boys
This was a break-out meet for Alejandro, he was on fire all weekend! Alejandro walked away with 8 new best times, 7 final swims and 1 new Summer Jo cut in the 200 Back. Now that is what we call a successful meet! Alejandro your hard work is paying off and your swimming journey is just beginning! I’m excited to watch you race again this weekend at Summer Jo’s, and I’m excited to watch you crush it next season!
Andi Taylor – 13-14 Girls
Andi was only available to swim on Sunday, and only eligible for 1 event, but she made that 1 event count! Andi swam the 200 IM where she dropped 1.2s off her best and qualified for finals. During finals, she finished 8th and matched her best time from the morning swim. Andi’s focus has moved on to short course season, and I have a feeling we will be seeing big-time drops in her future and maybe a big cut or two!
Max Wang – 11-12 Boys
Max only swam in one event at Pac champs, as he is preparing for Summer Jo’s this weekend. He competed in the 200 Bk where he qualified for finals with a new personal best, and then swam even faster at night finishing in 2nd! Max is setting himself up very nicely for Summer Jo’s this weekend!
Sam Wang – 11-12 Boys
Sam is also preparing for Summer JO’s, so only one event for him as well, which also happened to be the 200 Bk. He matched his best time in the morning and was right off his best in the evening at finals where he finished in 3rd place. I was very impressed with his swim and how he executed the race plan. Summer Jo’s is looking very bright for this young swimmer!
Danny Zimmerman – 11-12 Boys
Danny came to Pac champs to swim the 200 Bk only, as he is also preparing for Summer Jo’s. Even though he was only swimming in 1 event he showed everyone he means business. He swam a new best time in the morning and shaved off even more at night for a 1st place finish, followed closely by his two teammates Max and Sam! It’s safe to say our 11-12 Boys are looking strong going into Jo’s! Danny, it’s time to do what you do best and that’s race and have some fun!
Senior 2
Senior 2 was represented by ten swimmers at Pacific Committee Champs. They achieved best times in a lot of events. Individually, they scored 35 points for the team and participated on many relays.
Miki D’Adamo swam two days individually, joining the team on the evening of the first day for relays. She achieved best times in all her races. Her best race was probably her 400 free, which was the first time she swam it long course, and it was extremely well-executed. She was also on two relays, both of which placed in the top-10.
Maddie Fu swam eight individual events over the three days, achieving best times in five of them. She scored 22 points for her individual efforts, placing highest in the 50 free. In each of her three seconds swims, she swam faster than she did in the morning. She participated on all four relays, placing in the top-5 for three of them. The highlight was the outside smoke exhibited by Maddie and her teammates in the 200 Medley Relay, in which they placed first!
Cierra Garcia swam eight individual events in her second Pac Champs with Beach Cities. This time, she was able to participate in relays (which she was really excited about), helping them place in the top-10. Cierra achieved best times in five events, with her biggest time drop coming in her well-executed 400 free.
Miles Hardin was only able to participate on one day. He achieved best times in the two races he swam. His 200 IM was well-swum and his technique has improved on his weaker strokes.
Amelia Iwai swam in eight individual races over the weekend, achieving best times in six of them. She did achieve an additional best time leading off the 400 freestyle relay on Friday night. She scored seven points (individually) in the 100 fly, jumping four places from prelims to finals, and dropping an additional second. She swam on all four relays, helping them place in the top-10.
Tiffany Li came into the weekend after an extended period of time out of the pool due to an illness. Given the circumstances, she still swam really well. She participated in all of the relays, helping them place in the top-10. Tiffany had some nice splits in the relays, finishing out the weekend splitting a best time in her 100 breast.
Matthan Lu swam five events across two days, achieving best times in three of his races. He scored three individual points for the team, dropping time and moving up a place in his 100 breast at finals. He participated on two relays, placing 3rd and 2nd.
Grant Morgan swam the maximum of eight individual events, achieving best times in five of them. He scored three points individually, coming in his 200 breast, which was the first time he had swum it long course and dropped time in finals. He swam on all four relays, placing in the top-5 for all of them (2 2nd places and one 3rd place).
Jasmine Nelson swam seven events over the weekend, achieving best times in five of them. She would have achieved another best time had it not been for an unfortunate DQ. She had a breakout swim in her 100 back, dropping four seconds individually and another two seconds leading off the 400 medley relay on the last night.
Dylan Vo swam seven events over the three days, achieving best times in three events. He had recently returned from vacation, which explains some of his time adds. He had some nice splits on the two relays he participated in, helping them place 5th and 2nd.
Senior 3
What a blast! Senior 3 had such a great time at the Pacific Committee Championships. Our group collectively scored 296! Great job team. We can't wait for our next Beach Cities hosted event.
Jewell Lluz
Jewell is one of our most improved swimmers at Pac Champs, scoring 9 points for the team. The most notable of her events was the 200 Backstroke, where she placed 9th in finals and dropped over 8 seconds going 2:56.77. Jewell also swam Backstroke in the 4x100 Medley Relay and helped her team place 5th at finals.
Jewells growth since she joined Senior 3 has been second to none. She has done a great job demonstrating through swimming the most important quality I look for in swimmers, the ability to change. This is one of the many ways World Class Character can manifest itself. Way to go Jewell we are all proud of you.
Emma Gallagher
Emma had one of her best swim meets of the year at Pac Champs. She scored a massive 67 points for the team and dropped time in all of her events. Emma had many top 10 finishes this weekend including the 200 and 400 I.M. where she finished 4th place in both events going 2:48.67 and 5:58.97. Way to go Emma!
Sebastiano Bystedt
Seb was another swimmer who went big for the team scoring 45 points! He was able to place 2nd in the 200 Meter Breaststroke, going a 2:53.93. He also swma in the Breastroke leg of the 200 Medley Relay helping his team place 3rd. Keep up the great work Seb, we can't do it without you!
Joshua Truong
Joshua had another great swim meet at Pac Champs earning 20 points for the team. He dropped time in all his individual events and placed 5th in the 400 I.M. It always pays off to step outside of your comfort zone. We can't wait to see what Josh has in store for us next.
Cayden Garcia
Cayden had the best swim meet of his career at Pac Champs scoring a massive 51 points. He also had the biggest individual time drops on the Senior 3 roster. He swam the 400 I.M. cutting a total 15.79 seconds and placing 1st during finals. Cayden knocked all of his swims out of the park this weekend. Great job Cayden!
Bella Tieman
Bella had a great swim at Pac Champs, scoring 2 points for her team. Bella's best events this weekend were the 200 Free where she dropped over 2 seconds going a 2:36.70 and the 400 Medley Relay where she got a personal best time of 1:09.64. Keep up the hard work Bella.
Marcus Syring
Marcus attended his first long course swim meet at Pac Comm Champs and he really hit the ground running. He was able to score 30 points for his team and final in 4 out the 5 events he swam in this weekend. His fastest event this meet was the 100 M Free where he went 1:03.23 in finals placing 4th. Way to go Marcus!
Bennett Sootkoos
Bennet had a very interesting Pac Champs where he got to swim in his very own swim off. He also scored 28 points in the 200 Fly, 100 Fly and 50 Free. Bennet's best performances of the meet were definitely his 200 Fly where he placed 5th in finals and his 100 Fly in the 400 Medley Relay. Keep up the great work Bennet and we'll see you at the next swim meet.
Aiden Barrett
Aiden had a full plate this weekend, he swam in many long distance events and was an integral part of our Relay team. He helped out in all of the Boys 15 & over A relays where they managed to get two 4th place finishes in the 200 and 400 Free Relay. Great job Aiden!
Lucas Ro
Lucas was back in action at his first swim meet since recovering from a major injury. Lucas' best events this weekend included the 200 Free where he dropped 13 seconds going a 2:33.82. Lucas also managed to final in 3 events this weekend, the 50 Free, 100 Back and 200 I.M. Keep up the hard work and have fun at JO's.
Derek Huang
Derek is another one of our returning swimmers who really hit the ground, earning the team 7 points. He swam in the 200 M Breaststroke and placed 10th during finals, going a personal best time 3:04.47. Derek also swam a wonderful 100 Fly in the 400 Medley Relay. Great job Derek!
Holden Taylor
Holden was able to join us on the last day of Pac Champs for a great swim in the 400 Medley relay and a massive 10 second drop in the 200 I.M. Way to go Holden we hope to see you at more swim meets.
Kattalee Segal
Kattalee had some really smart swims this weekend, scoring 32 points for the team. She had personal best times in all 4 of her events. Her best swims were the 100 Freestyle where she got a personal best time of 1:09.05, and her 200 Breaststroke where she dropped over 6 seconds going a 3:13.94. Way to go Kattalee we can't wait to see you at the next swim meet.
Senior 4
Senior 4 had a great meet that was capped off by 8 new JO times and many more super close cuts, a few Pac Com Champion swims and some great relay performances.
Leo Antioco - Leo lifeguarded the first two days and only swam on Sunday where he started off with an interesting 200 IM… Fortunately he put together a great 200 Breast prelims swim in a stroke that is not his favorite and made it back in 8th place. At night he moved up a few more spots to finish 5th, dropped a few more seconds and oddly only found himself a bit of a JO time.
Anderson Bennett - Anderson had a standout meet. He started with a bang in the 100 Breast, dropping 3.3 seconds going 1:13.57 and knocking on the door of a Sectional time. He managed to win that event that evening. Anderson also put together some pretty big drops in all his other events, notably winning the 200 IM with a 2:26.90 just off the JO time and a 59.6 in the 100 free dipping under the 1:00 mark for the first time.
Fred Brown - Fred dropped 2.27 in his 200 Free to finish 10th overall in that on Saturday. On Sunday Fred dropped 5.1 in his 200 IM going under 2:30 for the first time and narrowly missing a JO time in that. Fred had a big drop in his 200 breast at prelims and came back to finish 4th in the event with a 2:54.
Chloe Haddad - Chloe just joined the group a few weeks ago and despite being a bit out of shape for racing held it together for all 6 sessions. Chloe won the 100 breast dropping some time going 1:25.99 in prelims and just missing the JO time. Chloe also had a big 7.7 second drop in his 100 fly (where she didn’t die!!) and another big 7.7 second drop in his 200 free. Sunday evening she managed to clean up in the breaststroke events and win the 200 Breast with a 3:08 also just off the JO cut.
Audrey Lie - Audrey got better as the meet went on and started off Friday evening with winning the 100 fly going 1:13. Saturday she dropped 3 seconds in her 400 Free to finish 3rd. Sunday morning she put together a very nice 100 free to drop 1 second and go 1:06. Not bad for swimming all the events she doesn’t love.
Chase Little - Chase swam a full slate starting with the 50 free on Friday dropping a bunch of time and narrowly missing the JO cut. Chase put together a great 100 fly dropping more time to go 1:07. Saturday night Chase led off the 200 Free relay to again try to get that JO time and missed it by tenths. He also had a great 400 Free in the morning dropping 15 seconds! On Sunday he dropped under 59 in the 100 free to go 58.8 and also put up some solid relay splits.
Heather O’Brien - Heather had a fantastic meet that was filled with many time drops that lead to so many “almost” JO cuts, literally just off cuts by tenths and hundredths in almost every event. Friday she finished 2nd in the 200 back going 2:44 and dropping 7 seconds and also dropped nearly a 1 second in her 50 free going 30.3. She finished 3rd in the 100 fly and 200 free on Saturday dropping 1.48 going 2:20. She won the 400 Free that evening after having just missed her JO time by .5, yes .5 in a 400 while swimming out by herself and no one to race. She time trialed that again on Sunday, swimming by herself yet again dropping more time and now only missing the cut by .3. Finally Sunday evening she found some redemption in the 100 free to finish 2nd and get her JO time with a 1:04.28.
Pierce Ryan - Pierce also had a meet of near misses in JO times. Friday he finished 3rd in the 200 back and dropped 3.6 to grab a JO cut in that event and also dropped 1.3 in his 100 fly going 1:06.7. Saturday he dropped 8 seconds in his 200 free to go 2:19 and finished 3rd in the 100 back just missing the JO time. Sunday he time trialed the 100 back and missed his cut yet again but this time by .01! Thankfully had had one more shot that evening in the 400 medley relay and not only got the cut but smashed his time going 1:07.
Ben Schlehuber - Ben started off with a great drop in his 400 IM but unfortunately that resulted in a DQ on a sloppy turn. He turned that around to win the 50 free that evening and grab a JO time with a 28.5. On Sunday he dropped 6 seconds in his 200 IM again just off the JO time. We scraped the 200 IM to focus on the 1500 that evening where he put up an impressive 19.13 and a new JO time. He had also grabbed his JO time that morning in the 100 free with a 1:00.65.
Ian Tumamak - Ian only swam a few events but started with a nice drop in his 100 breast going 1:24 and right on his best time in the 50 free. On Saturday he dropped a bit in his 200 free going 2:19.0 just off the JO time. Luckily Saturday night he put up a nice 400 free to finish 3rd and grab a JO cut in that event going 4:52 and dropping nearly 5 seconds.
