SCS All-Star Festival Recap

Tim Murphy

Beach 3
This group sent 2 athletes to the 2023 All Star Festival in Las Vegas - Hailey Kuo and Patrick Wang. Patrick representing the White Team and Hailey on the Blue. By all reports the kids had a great time meeting new kids from other teams and coming together to compete (which is one of the main objectives of this meet). I was not in attendance at this meet, but by the looks of the results, and accounts from the kids, Day 1 was strong and then we faded a bit as the weekend went on. Much of this may be due to the missed days over our holiday break, but also the distractions that a meet like this can provide. All in all it was a win for their growth as young athletes.

Hailey Kuo - Way to go Hailey, glad you had a great time at your first All Star Meet and looking forward to your champs swims. Way to go!!!!!

Senior 4
Jake Everitt was selected for the 13/14 Boys Red Team and swam a full slate of events. He added a bit of time on his 100 free, managed to score a few points in the 200 Breast with a 2:39 and a nice 6th place finish in the 200 Fly with a 2:09. Jake had a tiny drop in his 100 Breast going 1:11 and nabbing a few points and then had a 5th place finish in the 100 fly with a 57.3 and also a few points scored with his 400 IM. Jack also helped on is relay teams including a 4th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay and a 4th place finish in the 400 Free Relay.

Kevin Han was chosen for the 13/14 Boys Blue Team. Kevin was right off his best 100 Free time to finish 12th, had a 6th place finish in the 200 Breast with a 2:22 and dropped a smidge in his 100 back to grab 3rd place. On Day 2 Kevin grabbed 3rd again in the 200 Back with a 2:05 and 5th place with a 1:04 and a tiny drop. Kevin also helped his 400 Medley relay finish 3rd and the 200 Medley relay finish 6th.

Senior 5
Senior 5 had 3 swimmers participating in the SCS All Star festival last weekend in Las Vegas. Kotaro Bell, Isaac Chang and Adriel Sun all took the trip to Vegas to represent SCS and BCS at the All Star Festival.

Kotaro was on Team White, Isaac was on Team Blue, and Adriel was on Team Black. Between the three of them they walked away with a combined total of 276 individual points! Congratulations boys, you represented SCS and Beach Cities very well and I hope you all had a fantastic experience!

Kotaro Bell

Kotaro had himself a great weekend in Vegas, he walked away with 4 podium finishes out of his 6 events. He also walked away with 3 new personal best times. What a weekend of racing, but the fast swimming didn’t stop there! Kotaro put in some huge swims on his relay legs. His 21.33 anchor leg of the 200 Medley relay was particularly impressive! Congratulations Kotaro on some truly impressive swimming!

Isaac Chang

Fast swimming was the theme in Vegas and Isaac did not disappoint. Of the 6 individual events entered Isaac never finished outside of the top 5, 4 of his races were podium finishes. Isaac also walked with 1 new best time and matched his best times in his other events. Not too shabby after returning back to swim the week before from a 2 week vacation! Isaac was a key player in his 2 relay teams as well, he helped his team finish 3rd and 2nd earning valuable points for his team! Isaac I hope the All Star Festival was a great experience and I’m excited to see what you can do in 2023!

Adriel Sun
Adriel was instrumental in Team Black's success, he was their 3rd highest individual point scorer with a total of 82 points! Adriel placed inside the top 10 for all 6 of his individual events, 2 of those were 2nd place finishes in the 100 and 200 Breast. Although Adriel didn’t walk away with any new personal bests he was right on his best times. Adriel was a huge factor in Team Blacks 400 Medley win, he swam the fly leg and helped his team beat team red by .4 of a second! Congratulations Adriel, you represented SCS and BCS very well and you should be very proud of yourself, the future is bright!
