WHO ARE WE?
Horizon Swimming is a USAS-registered, competitive swim program based in Thousand Oaks. Our members range from 6 to 18 years of age and swim at all levels, from local novice swim meets for our beginners, to regional competition for senior athletes.

Our goal as a team is to develop children into strong, independent athletes who can find success at the highest level of the sport. We educate parents regularly and work with our swimmers to encourage athlete autonomy. We believe that athlete autonomy leads to a stronger personal drive, a higher degree of accountability and ultimately, a deeper sense of accomplishment when succeeding.

Horizon does not train as often or as long as many competitive swimming programs. Additionally, our swimmers do not put in as much yardage as they would at other teams. And yet, we are the fastest growing and fastest improving team in Ventura County. We believe in the development of mechanics first, coupled with race pace training and ample recovery. This formula works and has led to greater retention, happier athletes and most importantly, fast swimming!

IS OUR PROGRAM RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?
Horizon currently has seven different training groups between our pre-comp and competitive teams to meet the needs of as many swimmers as possible.

Pre-Competitive Team (6 - 10 years old)

Pre-Comp is the entry level of the team. In order to be considered for a Pre-Comp group, swimmers must be at least 6 years of age and be able to comfortably swim one length (25 yards) of both Freestyle and Backstroke.

Pre-Comp Groups meet twice a week at the Yarrow Family YMCA and Simi Valley Family YMCA for 30 or 45 minutes. Schedules vary, but classes generally run on M/W and T/Th between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 pm.

Age Group Competitive Team (6 - 13 years old)

The Age Group Program consists of three groups (Rio, Athens & Tokyo) and is geared primarily toward athletes age 14 and younger. In order to be considered for the entry level of the Age Group program, a swimmer must be able to swim Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke proficiently and have a basic knowledge of Butterfly.

Senior Competitive Team (12 - 18 years old)

Our Senior Program consists of two groups (Beijing and Senior) for athletes 13 and older. To be placed in the Senior Group, your swimmer must be of high school age, have extensive competitive experience and be a strong athlete across all disciplines. To be considered for the Beijing Group your child must be a strong swimmer, but prior competitive experience is not a pre-requisite.

WHEN AND HOW OFTEN DO SWIMMERS TRAIN?

Horizon athletes practice anywhere from 2 to 5 times per week, depending on their group. We do not have a mandatory attendance policy, but rather maintain expectations for our swimmers on how often they should be attending training.  For a complete breakdown of group schedules CLICK HERE or go to the Events portion of our web page.

SCHEDULE AN EVALUATION FOR YOUR SWIMMER
While we do large-scale team tryouts twice annually, we are available to do an evaluation for your swimmer at almost any time throughout the year. To schedule an evaluation, simply follow the link below to fill out our contact form and indicate that you would like to have your swimmer/s evaluated for the team. Evaluations are available most days of the week, but are by appointment only.

Evaluations typically take 5-10 minutes. After the evaluation, a member of our coaching staff will reach out to you to let you know the results and possibly offer a trial practice with the group we feel your child would fit into.
