Myers & Barnes Headline TSC Performances At Sr. Nationals

The 2013 Canadian Summer Nationals are in the books and TSC swimmers showed very well over the 4 days in Pointe-Claire.  The big story for TSC coming out of Sr. Nationals was the first ever National Championship for Matthew Myers in the 200BK (2:00.36) and the final National Championship for retiring TSC swimmer Warren Barnes in the 50BR (28.25)!

Myers (pictured right), who trains with Byron Macdonald and Linda Kiefer with our friends at the University of Toronto, had two epic showdowns over the weekend with Matthew Swanston and while Swanston edged Myers by .04 in the 100BK earlier in the meet, on Saturday night Myers returned the favour by winning gold in the 200BK by .01 over Swanston.  On Sunday, Myers capped off his meet with a 4th place performance in the men's 50FR (23.54), which was over a full second faster then his personal best heading into the competition.  Congratulations Matt!

Barnes, who trains with Ben Titley at the Toronto High Performance Centre, identified these Sr. Nationals as his final career swim meet back in the Spring.  In his final swim, Warren unleashed a 28.25 in the Final of the 50BR to claim Gold.  Barnes' performance in the 50BR was the highest scoring FINA points swim of the entire meet.  We here wish Warren all the best as he plans to pursue a career as a firefighter... truly a class act of the swimming community and we were fortunate to have him as part of our TSC family.  For reaction from Warren, please see this article from Swimming Canada.

In total, TSC collected 6 medals throughout the competition (2 Gold, 4 Silver) and finished 10th overall in the Team Standings.
