New Level 3 Official!
Congratulations to TSC parent, Berna Aricibasi, who recently obtained her Level 3 Officials status! Moving up the officials’ ladder is a gift to TSC and the swimming community parents like Berna give generously and selflessly.
And now, “Berna’s Top 10 Reasons for Moving Up The Officials’ Ladder”:
#10: Because Officials always have the best seats at the pool!
#9: Because Officials get to wear white, even in the winter.
#8: Because I’ve always wanted to know the difference between an ‘extended layout’ and an ‘extended layaway’.
#7: Because Officials get to pretend they are not watching their own kids swim, when really they are.
#6: Because sitting in the stands can be boring and make your bum go numb.
#5: Because volunteering is quintessentially ‘Canadian’ – it’s what makes our country great.
#4: Because hanging out in 25 celsius for six hours surrounded by people in bathing suits makes me feel like I’m in Barbados (sort of).
#3: Because if I’m going to wear geeky white clothes in winter I want to be surrounded by other people wearing geeky white clothes.
#2: Because swim parents are devoted and hard-working (and even a little cool).
And the #1 reason why Berna moved up the Officials’ Ladder:
Because it makes me happy to see our wonderful children doing their best not only in swimming but also in living healthy lives and building supportive friendships. I am hopeful for our future when I see swimmers in the pool and not in the malls wasting their lives. If officiating can help our children be better people, sign me up!
