How to Become a Member of TSC
We’re interested in joining TSC. What do I do?
Toronto Swim Club’s new member assessment takes place on Friday, September 5 at 4:00 pm at the University of Toronto pool (55 Harbord Street, Toronto).
Tryouts are on a first come first serve basis and parents and swimmers are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start.
A swimmer cannot be signed in without the presence of a parent or guardian.
What will happen on the day of the initial tryout?
When you arrive
-
Arrive at the pool and assemble in the viewing gallery located above the pool (street level).
-
Changing rooms will open at 3:45pm.
-
Two parent volunteers will distribute a “New Swimmer Tryout Form” and assign each swimmer a number. No swimmer will be allowed in the water until a New Swimmer Tryout Form has been completed and submitted to the club.
-
Once a swimmer has his/her number, the swimmer (not the parent or guardian) should report to the pool deck for assessment.
Note: Outdoor shoes must be removed before entering the pool deck. -
TSC personnel will be on deck to assist all swimmers.
In the pool
The minimum requirement for admittance into the TSC Intro program is the ability to successfully complete two laps of the 25 meter pool (1 lap on the front and 1 lap on the back).
A swimmer seeking to enter a group higher than Intro may be asked to demonstrate all four competitive swim strokes, a flip turn and a dive.
Swimmers with prior club experience are asked to bring an up-to-date copy of their individual Swimming Canada page showing best times.

After the pool
Swimmers/parents will be directed to place the swimmer’s name on a list for one of the following groups: Introductory, Youth, Junior, or Senior/National. If a group reaches capacity swimmers will be placed on a wait list administered by the Club Manager.
Parents will receive the training schedule, date of first workout, fees and other important information, in an Orientation Manual.
What happens after the initial tryout?
A swimmer who has been placed into a training group has a two week tryout period. If the swimmer decides to join TSC, the swimmer must register within two weeks of the first tryout practice attended, including the payment of fees in accordance with Club policy. Follow the instructions on the Registration tab of the Club website: www.torontoswimclub.com. In the event a swimmer does not join TSC, there is no charge for the two week tryout.
Note: No swimmer will be allowed in the water at the end of the two week tryout unless registration has been completed, including payment of required fees.
New families are invited to a New Members Orientation on Saturday, September 27 at 10:00am at U of T.
What if my child is put on a wait list?
You will be notified by the Team Manager if and when a space becomes available.
