Karah F has elevated her training time the past few weeks. She keeps hitting faster and faster times, moving up her way in the lane and leading sets. Keep up the good work, it is infectious to the group and will make us all better!

Senior Blue
Sophia R has been working very hard on her habits. Throughout the past month it is great to see an athlete recognize the need for adjustments in swimming technique or ... breathing patterns, commit to adjusting them every day, and watch them improve at swim meets. Your hard work and dedication to your own swimming is paying off, great job Sophia!

Ava D & Sidney F: These two athletes have been an amazing training duo, and positive leaders on deck through December and January. They have found a great balance between working hard and having fun with their swimming. Together, they have discovered their love for butterfly and are preparing for some big WOW swims this championship season!

Junior Provincial
Congratulations to Mia M, the swimmer of the month for the Junior Provincial group. It has been a distinct pleasure to coach Mia this season and to watch her develop and grow into an outstanding and highly accomplished swimmer and to observe her developing maturity and impressive personal skills. She is really a role model for everyone-a natural leader and nurturer who understands the needs of others and just what is appropriate and helpful in all circumstances. She realizes that true mastery is achieved on a long and winding road filled with many challenges. She is always aware of the needs of others and is quick to implement the appropriate response that the situation demands- sometimes humour, often serious messages of support. She has those rare gifts of insightful caring and accurate awareness. Mia understands the importance of small gestures of kindness, and this is the way that she constantly communicates. Swimming teaches many lessons about life – tough lessons at times but important lessons that are common to all swimmers. Adversity, how to deal with adversity, how to handle it, success, how to deal with success and how to handle it, how to be a good teammate, how to communicate effectively with a variety of people are some of the more important lessons that come to mind. These are skills that are needed and are essential in our life’s journey. Steven Covey the author of so many important self-help books stated that “we develop character muscles by overcoming challenges and adversity.” Mia has faced more than her fair share of adversity this year and the impressive part of her performance has been her grace, her dignity and her persistence in overcoming these challenges. She comes from a highly supportive family that understands the challenges involved in high level performance sports and Mia is always willing to effectively use her support system. She takes full ownership of her performances, never looks for excuses or to blame others but always looks for strategies to build a new path to success. Mia is a great teammate who understands not only the physical demands of the sport, but also the emotional and psychological challenges that need to be handled in order to be successful. She is unique, someone you do not see often, someone with wisdom, compassion and a deep competitive spirit. Her exceptional character will continue to drive her swimming journey along with success outside the pool.
Congratulations Mia!

Junior Blue
Congratulations to Ben C, the swimmer of the month for the Junior Blue group. Ben had some exceptional swims at both the TSC Winter Invite/Joanne Malar meets and demonstrated that success is found in daily personal commitment. Ben has come to understand that all the little details matter and that the daily struggle is not to be avoided but embraced. He is an honest and analytical swimmer, a combination that does not allow him to avoid addressing his skills and yes, his weaknesses. He is open and willing to adapt and make changes to improve. He has come to understand others' points of view and to embrace the need for good energy in his daily practice sessions. Ben has identified, “the will to prepare” as one the most important ingredients for both his short term and long-term success both in and out of the pool. Ben not only understands this concept but has fully implemented all of the aspects involved. He never misses practice, arrives on deck with great energy prepared to work hard and move closer to his goals every day. Over the past few months Ben has defined himself as a swimmer with a serious future. The keys to his success are found in a great support system at home, a deep commitment to improving in the day-to-day routine and a mental toughness that is hard to find in such a young swimmer. Ben has great athletic ability, but it is his personal skills that separate him from the pack and move him forward toward a long and magical swimming career.
Congratulations Ben!

Junior White
Aria A has been showing a steady increase in her personal/athletic awareness during training since the break, working on the fine-tuning that is required to push the boundaries of the level that she's been operating at so far this season. With some exciting performances at the MSSAC Future Stars meet, she demonstrated the ability to apply technical adjustments under pressure and race with more purpose. This is a great sign of her growing maturity as a swimmer, and sets up a strong foundation for the rest of the season.
- Coach Cam Kidd
Junior Orange
Emma M has come back from the break engaged, energetic, and has clearly raised her personal standards above what they were before, challenging not only herself in practices, but the rest of the Jr. Orange group as well. She has turned into one of the leaders of the group, taking the initiative to ask questions, push herself, and take greater personal responsibility for her swimming. It's already so much more exciting to work with her, and the rest of the season should prove interesting!

Youth Provincial
Shinah L. has been a very consistent and positive leader in the group throughout the fall. Our focus for January was developing better habits for the new year. Shinah has done a great job with this, as she has improved her activation before practice and certain habits in the pool. This was rewarded with some big PB's throughout January, including a great 200FL at this past weekend's MSSAC Future Stars Meet.

Top Provincial
In January, Top Provincial swimmers focused on goal setting and how the technical, mental, and personal goals we choose shape us as athletes and teammates.
Congratulations to Patrick, Top Provincial’s January Swimmer of the Month, for approaching his goals with focus and effort. Patrick set out to improve his freestyle hand entry, backstroke rotation, stroke rate, and pacing. He showed up to each practice ready to learn, apply feedback, and push himself with consistency.
Patrick also demonstrated that progress in swimming isn’t only measured in what we show in the pool. At our most recent swim meet, he went out of his way to support a new Academy Gold swimmer, helping him prepare for his race, easing his nerves, and guiding him to the correct lane. It was a simple act that reflected maturity, kindness, and the best of our team culture.
Well done, Patrick!
