| Greater Ottawa Kingfish Swim Club (GO), COVID-19, and Fall Programing: August 09, 2020 Dear Kingfish Families: The Greater Ottawa Kingfish priority is the health and well-being of all our student-athletes and staff during COVID-19. We will always follow guidance from Ottawa Public Health (OPH), Ministry of Health, Public Health Ontario, Swim Ontario, and Swimming Canada. We would like to update you on the following: GO Pools:
- The city of Ottawa has opened their facilities for fall 2020-2021 with restrictions on numbers allowed in each facility.
- uOttawa will be opening their facilities for fall 2020-2021 with restrictions on numbers allowed in their facility. We have not been informed of the exact date that our club will have access to the pool.
GO Membership numbers:
- Go historically has an annual membership of approx. 300 members; including our Let’s GO Swim program.
- With COVID and return to swim protocols and numbers, GO will be allowed to have120-150 swimmers in our competitive program depending on when/if our facilities open. We are hoping to increase those numbers as the fall transpires.
- This is not an ideal situation, however OPH and the other regulatory organizations are dictating how many swimmers will be allowed back this September and beyond.
GO Immediate Decisions:
- GO will not be running our Let’s GO Swim Program in 2020-2021
- GO will not be hosting any swim competitions this Fall/Winter/Spring.
- GO will not be continuing its PC Loblaws programing this year.
GO Invitations to 2020-2021 Swimmer: GO will be announcing invitations to the following groups in August. Dates may change due to pool announcements and COVID-19 announcements:

Swim fees update: The Board of Directors reviewed/passed future swim fee installments with the objective of doing what is best for the club’s long-term sustainability and respectful treatment of all our returning members. The analysis considered GO programming, expected operating expenses until our fiscal year-end of August 31, 2021. This included keeping our salaried coaching staff on contract in order to ensure the continuity and success of our club. The Board of Directors will be reviewing the budget monthly (swimmer numbers) in order to make any adjustments that might benefit our membership. GO 2020-2021 Staff: GO will announce its 2020-2021 Staff on August 19, 2020. Communication moving forward:
- GO will be launching our NEW website August 15, 2020.
- GO will be publishing its 2020-2021 Go Kingfish Handbook the third week in August, 2020
- GO will be releasing its invitation to group swimmers the third and fourth week in August.
- Registration for those invited this fall will open the week of August 24.
- Swimmers will have an “x” amount of time to register their swimmer, prior to releasing their spot to swimmers on our waiting list.
This has not been an easy time for anyone. Not all swimmers may be invited back immediately. Be assured that our staff and board of directors have been working on this diligently since March 13, 2020.
