Gigovic Names Female Swimmer of the Meet (Western Canadian Championships)

The Killarney Swim Club was in action at the Canadian Western Championships last week.  The competition was held in Winnipeg at the Pan Am Pool.  The meet attracted 450 swimmers from across western provinces and a few eastern teams.

KSC sent a contingent of 14 swimmers: Molly Fleming, Matea Gigovic, Brandon Hachey, Ali Kardas, Oliva Hatch, Megan L’Heureux, Balazs Moldovan, Alan Piatek, Bronwyn Preece, Grace Rowe, Brooklin Rideout, Maya Share, Charlie Trofimuk, and Soren Young.

The team competed well.  Carded Athlete Matea Gigovic led her team.  Gigovic collected 4 individual Gold Medals (100 FR, 50 Fly, 100 Fly, 50 FR) and a silver in the 200 FR.  Matea broke her own Alberta Provincial Record in the 50 Fly with a time of 27.23.  She also set new club record in the 50 Fly and 100 Free.

The team posted 28 best times and 10 of 14 swimmers scored points advancing to the A or B final.

The Women’s 15-17 Girls set a club record in the 4 x 100 Medley Relay (Share, L’Heureux, Gigovic, Fleming).   The boys were not to be out done, they set club records in both 400 FR and 400 Medley Relays. (Piate, Trofimuk, Hachey, Moldovan).

Matea Gigovic was awarded 13-15 years of age Female Swimmer of the Meet.
