GAZIEV WILL TRAIN WITH MANTA FOR OLYMPIC YEAR

Gaziev has decided to take a year off from attending the University of Ohio State to train at the Manta Swim Club in Winnipeg with Head Coach Robert Novak. Gaziev and Coach Novak started working together back at that Markham Aquatic Club and had success as Gaziev qualified for the 2017 Canadian World Junior Team, where he was apart of the two relays that broke the World Junior Records in 4x100 Free and 4x100 Mixed Medley. In the summer 2018, Gaziev qualified for the Pan Pacific Championships where he finished in the top 20 in the 50, 100, and 200 Free and helping Canada finish 4th in the 4x100 Free and 5th in the 4x200 Free Relays
Novak mentions that Gaziev’s work ethic and dedication will set a high standard for others in the training group and club. Manta has been focusing on delivering developmental excellence at every level of the sport, retaining the best staff, fostering outstanding volunteer support, maintaining state-of-the-art facilities and encouraging every individual to achieve the highest levels of personal development. We have been separating ourselves and building a clear and purposeful value system that consists of Honesty, Integrity, Competitiveness, Resiliency and Respect.
Gaziev brings to Manta a great amount of leadership and experience at this point and we hope to bring to him is a well-rounded (program) that can keep him healthy, keep him moving forward and provide the last few steps he needs to achieve his Olympic dream.
Gaziev mentions below;
I decided to redshirt my sophomore year and move to Winnipeg to train for Olympic trials with my club coach Robert Novak for a few reasons. Firstly, our athlete coach relationship is one of strongest that I’ve ever been a part of, allowing me to feel comfortable at all times and focus solely on development. Rob and I have known each other for a long time, so he knows what I need and what its going to take to achieve our goals. Secondly, the facility at MANTA is top notch, easily making it one of the best places to train in all of Canada. The combination of the great facility and Winnipeg being far from where I’m from played a huge role in building the clarity I needed to make my decision. Lastly, I hope to contribute to MANTA as more than just a good swimmer. I understand that I’ll be training with swimmers who were in my position just a few years ago, and so I will be trying my best to be a good leader and a positive influence, so that my teammates can thrive as well.
Overall, I’m very excited to be coming to Winnipeg to train under Coach Rob at MANTA. This opportunity is once in a lifetime and I hope to make the most of it.
I’m very much looking forward to this upcoming season!
