Support from Resilient Communities Fund Helps the Milton Marlins Get Back to Competition
Milton, ON – Since the first shutdown in March 2020, COVID-19 restrictions have affected Ontario’s youth sport organizations with disrupted training and reduced capacity limits. To help rebuild and recover from impacts of COVID-19, the Milton Marlin Swim Team (MMST) received a $150,000 grant from the Government of Ontario’s Resilient Communities Fund. The Resilient Communities Fund supports the recovery efforts of organizations impacted by COVID-19 and helps them respond with immediate, medium, and longer-term recovery projects.
Delivered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the MMST will use the grant to purchase comprehensive competitive swim meet technology including a large-scale video display and starting blocks. This will help rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19 by enabling our athletes to rebuild confidence and self-worth through access to competition, and generate necessary revenue for organizational health and recovery.
“Our Club is very grateful to receive funding from the Resilient Communities Fund,” says Meghan Whittaker, MMST’s Head Coach. “The new equipment purchased with this grant money will help generate enthusiasm for the sport of swimming within our team and our Milton community.”
MMST is looking forward to rebuilding its programs to pre-COVID-19 levels as restrictions ease and capacity requirements are lifted. Racing relies on technology and the acquisition of quality technology will help the Club establish a reputation as a high-performance swimming venue, help our youth members gain self-confidence through competition with real-time feedback, and support the financial recovery of our Club.
MMST is a not-for-profit organization, providing Milton area youth ages 6 and up with the opportunity to learn and participate in the sport of competitive swimming. Since 1990, we have designed our programs to promote and develop individual potential within a fun, team-based environment. Our mission is to be a community leader in Milton by helping members lead healthier, active lives through the sport of swimming. We enable our athletes to strive for excellence and achieve their best results physically, mentally, and emotionally in a sport they can enjoy their entire lives. We inspire a team culture where everyone encourages and takes pride in each other at all levels of competition.
