Practice Group Moves

We strive to place swimmers in a practice group in which they will receive the practices necessary for their level of stroke technique, endurance, and maturity. Group placement is a coaching decision based on what is best for each individual and the practice group. As the swimmers move up through the groups other factors will also come into play such as their attendance percentage, work ethic, and training pace.  Attendance will play a big role in moving groups.  If a swimmer is not attending all of the practices for the group they are one it will be very difficult for them to go on to a group that swims more.  In early years emphasis is on technique and love of the sport, later years consist of more demanding physical and psychological challenges so that swimmers can achieve their maximum potential.  Group move decisions are discussed between the current group coach and the coach the swimmer will move to and then together they determine what will work best for each swimmer and the groups as a whole.  Often it is to a swimmers advantage to remain longer on a current group and get the opportunity to be a leader than to move up and be at the bottom of the next group.  The opportunity to lead a group helps a swimmer to excel later in their swimming career and helps build leaders for the team.

We typically move swimmers within our group structure twice per year: September and late March or early April depending on spring break.  Moves to the Senior and Sectional groups are typically only once per year: September.  Swimmers who will be moved are notified prior to the move either in person if it is the middle of the year or by e-mail after long course season ends.  After these moves are made sometimes within the next two weeks as we see who has joined the team we need to make a few more moves and do those as necessary.
