The Colorado Torpedoes swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of CT to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

We also offer a 2-week free trial so you can try us out first.

CT GROUPS

Below are the minimum requirements for each level: 



NOVICE (Juniors Group Ages 10 & under) 

REQUIREMENTS: Children five (5) and older should be able to tread water for one minute and comfortably swim 25 yards front crawl and 25 yards back crawl without the aid of a flotation device AND with the face in the water.

Focus:

  • Learn legal freestyle and freestyle flip turns and open turns
  • Learn legal backstroke and backstroke flip turns and open turns 
  • Learn legal Breaststroke and breaststroke open turns
  • Learn basic block starts and streamlines

Works well in group training and has shown to cooperate and listen well to the instructor in swim lessons, and ability/willingness to participate without parent involvement on deck. 

Is ready to try developmental competition when ready-determined by coach!

Recommended four (4) practices per week & fun home meets and/or developmental/intermediate meets-can participate in certified meets as approved by their coach. 


 

JUNIOR (Juniors Group Ages 12 & under) 

Pass all Novice requirements and your child should be able to comfortably swim 100 yards without the aid of a flotation device AND with the face in the water. 

Focus:

  • Intro into USRPT sets
  • Refine legal Breaststroke and breaststroke open turns
  • Learn Butterfly and butterfly open turns
  • Refine freestyle, backstroke and turns
  • Refine basic block starts and streamlines including breakouts
  • Learn to read a pace clock and manage assigned rest interval

Works well in group training and has shown to cooperate and listen well to the coach in prior levels, and ability/willingness to participate without parent involvement on deck. 

Ready for intermediate competition and should make every effort to attend meets.  Recommended 4 practices per week & fun home meets and intermediate/advanced age group meets-can participate in certified meets as approved by their coach. 



SENIOR-PREP (Juniors Group Ages 14 & under) 

Pass all Junior requirements and  your child should be able to comfortably swim 200 yards without the aid of a flotation device AND with the face in the water.

Focus:

  • USRPT Training sets
  • Learn Individual Medley and IM turns
  • Learn advanced speed turns
  • Refine Butterfly and butterfly open turns
  • Refine Breaststroke and breaststroke open turns
  • Refine freestyle and backstroke
  • Refine basic block starts and streamlines including breakouts
  • Learn the 5th stroke (underwater skills)
  • Refines reading a pace clock and managing assigned sendoffs 

Works well in group training and has shown to cooperate and listen well to the coach in prior levels, and ability/willingness to participate without parent involvement on deck. Shows independence and ability to work directly with coach concerning issues and concerns.

Ready for intermediate/advanced competition and should make every effort to attend meets. Recommended 5 practices per week & fun home meets and intermediate/advanced age group meets-required to participate in certified meets as approved by their coach. Attend championship meets when qualified.


 

BRONZE (Seniors Group Ages 11 & up) 

Pass all Senior-Prep requirements and attend three (3) sanctioned swim meets with competition legal freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, 

A minimum of a 70% attendance rate is required!

Fins are required!

Also, your child should be able to comfortably swim 500 yards freestyle with proper breathing, swim all the competitive events legally and be willing to make their training and meets a priority.

Focus:

  • USRPT Training sets
  • Know how to read the clock
  • Have swum on strokes and distances (500 minimum) at meets (at least once)
  • Learn Individual Medley and IM turns
  • Learn advanced speed turns
  • Refine Butterfly and butterfly open turns
  • Refine Breaststroke and breaststroke open turns
  • Refine freestyle and backstroke
  • Refine basic block starts and streamlines including breakouts
  • Learn the 5th stroke (underwater skills)

Works well in group training and has shown to cooperate and listen well to the coach in prior levels, and ability/willingness to participate in team activities. Shows independence and ability to work directly with coach concerning issues and concerns.

Must participate in all required team meets/activities as directed by the head coach. Must attend championship meets as required.


 

SILVER (Seniors Group Ages 12 & up) 

Pass all Senior-bronze requirements and attend five (5) sanctioned swim meets with competition legal freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and Individual Medley.

A minimum of a 75% attendance rate is required!

Fins and a SportCount watch are required!

Also, your child should be able to comfortably swim 500 yards freestyle with proper breathing, swim all the competitive events legally and be willing to make their training/meets a priority.

Focus:

  • USRPT Training sets
  • Know 25 and 50 race pace times for events
  • Know how to read the clock
  • Have swum on strokes and distances (500 minimum) at meets (at least once)
  • Learn Individual Medley and IM turns
  • Learn advanced speed turns
  • Refine Butterfly and butterfly open turns
  • Refine Breaststroke and breaststroke open turns
  • Refine freestyle and backstroke
  • Refine basic block starts and streamlines including breakouts
  • Learn the 5th stroke (underwater skills)

Works well in group training and has shown to cooperate and listen well to the coach in prior levels, and ability/willingness to participate in team activities. Shows independence and ability to work directly with coach concerning issues and concerns.

GOLD (Seniors Group Ages 13 & up) 

The Senior Gold group is for swimmers ages 11 & over and by Head Coach invitation only! Swimmer must pass all Senior Silver requirements and have at least a State Championship time or above (and be willing to attend these meets and most travel meets).

Minimum of an 80% attendance rate is required! Must sign a Senior-Gold contract which outlines our rules and expectations. 100% in the weight training program unless in an emergency situation or excused. The swimmer will move to the silver dryland program if they cannot maintain the 100% weight commitment.

Fins, and a SportCount watch are required!

General Rules for all levels:

Requirements are listed as the rule for advancement but sometimes will be modified as determined by the Head Coach Sam Clark. Some younger swimmers may be ready for more advanced work at the recommendation of the head coach and approval of the swimmer and parents. However, our goal is to prevent burnout and injuries so the athlete can enjoy the sport of swimming for many years. The Head Coach will have the final decision on all manners related to the athlete's training (in/out of the water and when away from the pool) while members of the team.

RETURNING COLLEGE SWIMMERS CAN SWIM FOR $50 PER MONTH AND VOLUNTEER 1-2X PER WEEK WITH THE YOUNGER GROUPS (AS ASSIGNED) OR REGULAR FEES APPLY (NO FEES DURING COLLEGE BREAKS, DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR HOLIDAYS, EXCEPT FOR MEETS OR OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS)
