Lightning

Age Range:
9-11 years old

Description:
Lightning group is for swimmers 11 and under who are highly experienced at the age group level of competitive swimming.  Swimmers are skilled in all four competitive strokes and they will work towards improving their ability to compete in official swim meets.  Emphasis will be on fine-tuning on four strokes with a heavy emphasis on kicking and drill work.  Stroke technique will be emphasized, but there will be an increased proportion of conditioning.  At this level, there is a high expectation of teamwork and a positive attitude.

Pre-Assessment:
Learners must demonstrate the following skills:

• 50 yards legal Freestyle with start and flip turn.
• 50 yards legal Backstroke with start and flip turn.
• 50 yards legal Breaststroke, pull -out, start and open turn.
• 50 yards legal Butterfly.
• 100 yards legal Freestyle.
• 100 yards legal individual medley.

Learning Intention:
Developing a better technique on four strokes, focusing on further developing individual medley skills and an improvement on competitive turns and starts.

Learning Outcomes:
Learners should be able to consistently demonstrate the following criteria:

• 50 and 100 yards on Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle with competitive starts and turns.
• 200 Freestyle with competitive starts and turns.
• 100 and 200 yards individual medley with transitions turns.

Lesson duration:
1h:15m max, 5-6 times per week,plus dryland 1x week.

Equipment:
Kickboard, pullboy and Rubber Swim Fins.
