Shawn Drake, PT, PhD began her coaching career in 1993 with the Jonesboro Jets in
Jonesboro, AR. She moved to Hattiesburg, MS to pursue her doctorate in Exercise
Physiology and graduated with her PhD in 2001. After returning to Jonesboro in 2002,
she started coaching again while working at Arkansas State University. She served as
Head Coach for the Jets from 2007-2011 and 2015-2017. She served as ASI General
Chair from 2011-2015 and 2017-2019, ASI Vice Chair 2015-2017, and the ASI Safe
Sport Coordinator in 2016-2017. During her time as ASI General Chair, Shawn
volunteered her time to complete level 1 and 2 of the LSC Evaluation and Achievement
Program Status (LEAP) for ASI. She represented the Arkansas LSC at numerous USA
Swimming HOD meetings and worked closely with Arkansas Athlete Representatives.
In 2016, she received the Conoco Phillips 66 Outstanding Service Award from USA
Swimming for her volunteerism and dedication to swimming. She published several
articles related to swimming in Physician Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Journal of
Swimming and Research. She is currently working on several research studies related
to swimming and has plans to publish her research findings in the next year.
