“Vamos a Aprender” (we want to learn) was delivered by the East Bay Regional Park District Lifeguard Service each summer since 2015. | |
The program promoted water safety education to 600 “at risk” children ages 7-15 who visited Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore, CA. The 2024 plan includes delivering the program to over 800 children, expansion to other parks and recruitment of additional bilingual lifeguards. |
The program is aimed at achieving multiple aspects of the Department of Water Resources and Lifeguard Service public education and water safety mission.
|
The program targets the Hispanic population that visits Lake Del Valle on peak summer season weekends. Bilingual lifeguards provide forty-five minute water safety programs in Spanish, teaching basic water safety with a focus on life jacket safety. |
