May-June14 Schedule Changes

John Hulvey
Good morning GSC families,

As many of you know, 2024 is an Olympic year and the UF swim team has a large number of swimmers who will be competing at the Olympic Trials meet in June in Indianapolis for a chance to represent the United States in Paris.

In their training in May and early June for Trials, the UF team will be modifying their afternoon practice time, and that impacts GSC's pool space and time. Beginning May 1 and continuing through June 13, our O'Connell Center groups will be on the schedule outlined in the attached and posted to the GSC website.

During this time of intense preparation for the UF athletes, it is very important that we are all off the pool decks as quickly as possible when our pool time ends at 6:00:

  • Parents will only be allowed to watch practice from the viewing balcony during this period so we can manage the pool deck. There are only a few days when the balcony will be closed, so parents will need to wait outside on those days (noted on the GSC team calendar). Parents must leave the viewing balcony at 6:00 pm, waiting for swimmers outside the building.
  • Swimmers will be asked to leave their belongings on the steps or pool deck on either side of the deep-end lanes during practice. They will need to grab everything at 6:00 and take all items home, to the locker room, or to the dryland areas. We cannot leave gear on the deck past 6:00 pm.

Please know that we have worked hard to minimize disruption and still provide good training time for all of our swimmers during these 6 weeks. This is temporary, and all in support of the amazing collegiate and professional athletes that we get to train so close to each day!

Please reply to Christie if you have any questions, and thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation!
