CCAC/Dalton Dolphins Update for the Week of 5/22/2023

Jason Meszaros

DHS Pool Still Closed

We received some bad news this morning. The work on the gym floor is not completed. The estimated date we can return to the pool is DHS pool May 29th. We anticipated this and scheduled some meetings to access another facility. That meeting got pushed to tomorrow. Hopefully, we can have some water time scheduled by tomorrow afternoon. McCallie has many end-of-the-year activities happening so that facility is not available to us for this week. A big prop to McCallie! They saved us this Spring! We do hope to have better news for everyone tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime, we will initially plan for dryland every day this week. If (fingers crossed) we gain access to a pool, we will send an updated schedule immediately.

Dryland Schedule for the Week of 5/22/23 (DHS weight room/turf room)

Gold, Bullet, and Senior Groups
Monday-Friday 5:30-7:30 PM
Saturday 9:00-11:00 AM

Bronze and Silver Groups
Monday- Friday 5:30-6:45 PM

A Few Thoughts on Dryland Training from Coach Jason
Dryland is important! I can't make it any simpler. We had scheduled dryland for our Bronze, Silver, and Gold groups for years. Unfortunately, many families chose to skip it. We made a mistake and stopped offering it to those groups. In the following years, I have seen a significant deficit in athleticism and essential body awareness with our Bullet and Senior groups. There is no one factor to blame for this situation. Less time for P.E. in school, less intense P.E. in school, more screen time, less time for free play, etc. We need to be addressing this as often as possible. Not just for the sake of athletic performance. There is more and more evidence that as we age, we need to do more than stress our cardiovascular system for health and longevity. We need to be mobile, flexible, and strong. All of these skills are being taught in our program. Our dryland and weight training program has continued to evolve over the last decade and continues to improve. I'm excited about the possibilities it will afford us in the future. Take dryland and weight training seriously! You can thank me later.
