DHS Pool Closed for the Week of May 15th
Pool Closure for the Week of May 15th
The DHS pool will be closed for the week of the 15th. This is because they will be repairing the gym floor next week and do not want anyone on that side of the building. I was hoping this part of the project would be delayed until the end of the summer since everything else is so far behind schedule. We will continue to run practices as we did during the previous pool closure. All groups will have dryland on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The CCAC (year-round) swimmers will have the opportunity to practice at McCallie on Tuesday and Thursday. I wish we could allow our Dalton Dolphin swimmers the chance to swim next week, but McCallie was adamant that anyone using their pool had to be a registered member of USA Swimming. Only our CCAC swimmers are registered with USA Swimming. The practice schedule for next week is as follows.

In addition, I was notified we must continue to keep everyone except coaches and swimmers out of the building until late August. This news creates some new challenges for the summer. We are good at overcoming challenges, though. So, we will continue to make adjustments and be grateful we have a place to practice (for the most part). The first challenge to keeping the no-spectators policy in place is we cannot host any swim meets this summer. I have notified the other CASL teams, and they are working with their pools to host us at their pools for competition. I also informed GRPA that we could not host the District Meet. Instead, another GRPA team will host it this summer. So, our competition schedule will change in the next couple of weeks. I will notify you as soon as the new competition schedule is complete. I still don't have a great solution for the Team Picture and Ice Cream Social Night. I'm working on it, though.
We may have another interruption to our pool access in the next 4-5 weeks. DPS will be installing new flooring on the pool deck. Everything with the construction timelines has been hit-or-miss, so who knows if it will really happen in that timeframe. We are working on securing a practice location for CCAC and Dalton Dolphins if the flooring installation conflicts with our season.
Swim Lessons
All the restrictions and changes have made planning for our swim lesson offerings difficult. We will offer learn-to-swim lessons the week school gets out. The biggest issue is not allowing parents in the building. That's not a great scenario when you have a youngster timid of the water. We are still going to try. We won't do group lessons this summer. We will only offer private swim lessons for this summer. Private lessons are more expensive, but it helps us be much more fluid if we need to adjust schedules. The schedule will be posted next week as we have some adjustments to make due to the construction. Registration for the first session will open next Friday. If you have anyone looking for learn-to-swim lessons, tell them about us. Our learn-to-swim sessions are two weeks long. Students will do two - thirty-minute lessons per week. There is a $25 annual registration per family. Each session (4 - thirty-minute lessons) will cost $150 per student.
