Green & White: Annual Intra-club Swim Meet & Teambuilding
What is Green & White?
Green & White is the annual intra-club (BOWS only) meet where we separate the team into two groups: the Green Team and the White Team (BOWS team colors). Swimmers then compete against each other at the Green & White meet.
Who Can Participate?
All swimmers can participate!
- Novice swimmers participate on the day of the meet only. Novice swim events start first thing after warm-ups. Novice swimmers have regular practice with their coach in the week leading up to the event.
- Beginner, Intermediate, and Senior swimmers participate in the regular swim events and relays.
- Parents can also participate! Teams get extra points for parent participation.
Why Green & White?
Green & White has been a BOWS team tradition for many years. It has evolved over the years to include and encourage more parent involvement. The event is meant to help the younger and older swimmers build relationships and mentorships, allow the older swimmers leadership opportunities and introduce newer swimmers to competition in a fun, friendly setting.
One Week before Green & White
Each team is led by a senior group team captain and co-captains. The week leading up to the Green & White meet, the teams practice with their color team (Novice groups hold regular practice with their coach). The captains run practices with the supervision of the coaches. The team captains are also in charge of entering the swimmers in their events for the meet. Coaches email the list of events and entries before the day of the meet but the list may change depending on swimmer attendance the day of the meet.
The Day of Green & White
On the day of the meet, swimmers sit with their teams. Captains organize the swimmers and tell them when to swim.
There are several ways for teams to score points:
- Swim Races. These consist of individual and relay races for swimmers, along with two parent relays.
- Parent relays earn double points and the teams receive one point for every parent who dresses and swims in warm ups.
- “We Heart Push-ups” Contest. Each team earns one point per push up done in one minute.
- Cheering Contest. We end with the cheering contest where each team is given three opportunities to show their team spirit. The team with the best cheer wins 50 points.
What Team is My Swimmer on?
Coaches assign swimmers to a team in the weeks leading up to the event.
What is the Black Team?
The black team is composed of Rainbow Aquatics alumni swimmers. Parents who swam for Rainbows may swim with the Black Team but will not be able to compete during the parent relays.
Parents who are excited, willing, and able to swim in the parent relays, let your swimmer’s team captain know. And bring your swimsuit and goggles!
What if we can’t make it to Green & White?
All swimmers will be assigned to a team so they will still participate in the practices during the week but please let your team captain know that your swimmer will not be able to attend the day of the meet so they are able to plan their entries.
