About Us

The COHO Swim Club is a high-quality, competitive, and comprehensive developmental program for residents in Deerfield, Highland Park, and surrounding communities. Founded in 1971 by the High School Swim and Dive coaches of Deerfield High School and Highland Park High School, COHO is a sponsored program of the Deerfield Park District that partners with Township High School District 113, Deerfield School District 109, and the Highland Park Park District to provide exceptional competitive aquatic sports programs. COHO has a long-standing, rich tradition and history of success in competitive aquatics on the local, regional, national, and international levels. 

The COHO Swim Club is open to swimmers aged 5 years and older. The club is divided into multiple groups and levels. Developmental Groups: Minnows, Chinooks, and Sharks levels.  Age Group Groups: White, Blue, Red, Black, and Fun & Fit levels. Senior Groups: Silver and Gold. Masters Groups: Offered one day a week, two days a week, or three days a week. Water Polo: Offered multiple days a week. Coming Soon, Diving: Which will be offered one to two days per week to start.   All swimmers are placed into groups according to their age, ability, and commitment level. This structure enables us to cater to the individual needs of each swimmer. 

Team Mission and Vision

MISSION: To educate and support our athletes in a safe and healthy environment where goals can be set and achieved, all while learning lifelong skills.

VISION: To provide coaches, facilities, and support for increased proficiency in competitive amateur swimming; to encourage and develop sound swimming skills; to develop good sportsmanship, individual integrity, and a positive team atmosphere. 

Team Structure

The COHO Head Coach, Head Age Group Coach, and Head Developmental Coach are full-time employees of the Deerfield Park District. The primary function of each position is the daily operation of the COHO Swim Club, but these positions also incorporate other duties within the District. The Head Coach and Head Age Group Coach are also voting members of the COHO Parent Board. Part-time coaches are also employed by the Deerfield Park District and are hired at the discretion of the Head Coach. All COHO coaches are trained in CPR, First Aid, Athlete Protection, and Coaches' Safety. All coaches are certified by USA Swimming. COHO coaches also further their education by attending clinics and seminars, and by participating in the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA), an accredited continuing education professional coaching program.
