Coaching & Program Staff
Kelly Brown Glenbrook Aquatics Manager & Glenbrook Swim School Lesson Director

Coach Kelly proudly enters her 35th year of coaching, having played a pivotal role in the founding of the Northbrook Spartan Swim Club, now known as Glenbrook Aquatics Glenbrook Swim Club. Under her guidance, the Glenbrook Swim Club has consistently ranked among the top 25 teams in Illinois, frequently finishing in the top 15 at the Age Group Championships and Senior Championships over the past 18 years. The club has produced numerous state champions, top 16 state finishers, junior and senior national qualifiers, and zone qualifiers.

As an ASCA Level 4 certified coach and a dedicated member of the Age Group Committee for Illinois Swimming, Coach Kelly brings both expertise and passion to her role. Her journey began as a year-round club swimmer with the Arlington Alligators from age 6 to 18, where her heart and soul became intertwined with the sport of swimming. Following an impressive four-year varsity career at Saint Viator High School, she chose coaching over competition while pursuing her college degree.

After earning a BA in Criminal Justice and facing challenges in the court system, Coach Kelly embraced the opportunity for full-time coaching. A brief stint in the corporate world only reinforced her commitment to aquatics, particularly with Glenbrook Aquatics, which has become an integral part of her life and dreams.

Coach Kelly is devoted to fostering a positive philosophy and environment that cultivates exceptional swimmers, divers, and water polo players while nurturing their development as outstanding individuals both in and out of the pool. With the support of a remarkable coaching staff, she strives to ensure that all athletes become well-rounded and respectful competitors. Recently, she revamped the lesson program by introducing the Glenbrook Swim School, a dedicated initiative aimed at preparing swimmers for team readiness. This enhancement has made Glenbrook Aquatics truly comprehensive, serving athletes from foundational skills to competitive excellence.

Outside of coaching, Kelly is a proud mother to her two beautiful daughters, Dayton and Tacy, who keep her busy with their many sports activities. She and her husband, Brian—who also coaches swimming—reside in Palatine, where they enjoy family life along with their energetic dog, Lainey.

Pam Racansky
Head Age Group Coach, Mighty & Energy Lead

Coach Pam grew up in the Chicago suburbs, moved to the Pacific Northwest for 20 years, and came back to support her sister and niece, who live locally in Glenview.  Pam actually began her swimming career at 9 months old, at our local North Suburban YMCA, where she continued until age 9, moving on to LFSC and then Scouts Aquatics. She is an All-American high school and college swimmer who earned Lake Forest High Schools’ Athlete of the Year in 1995. She also played water polo and earned All-State water polo player for 3 years, achieving 120 goals in one season. At Lake Forest High School, Pam placed as high as 3rd at IHSA State, and was a member of the nationally ranked 1993/1994 Deadly-Medley, earning top state honors individually in the 100 breaststroke, for 3 years, and competed at Junior and Senior Nationals in multiple events.

Pam earned All-Conference and All-American in college at Illinois State University,  where she swam for 4 years on full academic scholarship. She was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Centennial Team in 2007, which is composed of both current and former student-athletes. In order to be named a member of the team, swimmers and divers had to meet three criteria, which included: three or four-time all-conference athlete; specialty award honoree (swimmer/diver of the year) and all-conference athlete remarkable performance at individual institution (record-breaking performance).

Pam has her B.S. from Illinois State University in Anthropology and a Masters of Arts from Oregon State University in Medical Anthropology, where she continued her water polo career playing club and Master’s water polo.  Pam returned to coach the swim team after 20 years of teaching in medical education.  For the past three plus years, she was the head swim team coach at her alma mater North Suburban YMCA, until moving to the Glenbrook Swim Club March 2024. Pam’s other love leads her to rein as the head coach to a junior roller derby league on the southside in Homewood, IL, ChicagoKnockouts, where she plays roller derby and is known as her character Beat-Her Juice. She has competed every year in the Chicago Triathlon, since 2021, and will be competing again this year. Pam lives in Chicago and enjoys getting outside as much as possible during the summer, especially skating or swimming. Coach Pam believes that we are all primed for greatness. Sometimes we just need some help and direction. “Get Better” is one of her everyday mottos. When we fail or get knocked down, we learn the most about how to get back up. Keep believing, keep trying and moving forward, and great things will happen.

Coach Bryan grew up in Glenview, IL after immigrating from South Korea when he was four years old. At the age of eight, he began competitively swimming for the Glenview Titan Aquatic Club under Coach Callan. His passion for the sport only grew from there and during his years at Glenbrook South, he swam for their varsity team, going to state his junior and senior years. While at GBS he also volunteered for their Learn to Swim program, beginning his coaching career by teaching young children over the weekends and summer breaks. After going away to school for a few years, he decided to return to the pool he called home. Ever since he has found great meaning in helping future generations of swimmers reach their full potential and hopes they will love it as much as he did.

In 2012 he began his coaching career at the McGaw YMCA in Evanston, a position he held for three years until graduating and pursuing a sales career. Chris Peterson
Wonder/Pre-Team Lead Coach

I have lived in Glenview for over 12 years with my wife Katie and our 2 kids Wes and Izzy. I grew up in New Hampshire and swam from age 6 - 18 then rowed for a couple of seasons in college.  My hair bleached out, my skin smelled of chlorine, I shaved my body and I hardly had a weekend free for 12 years. I lived and breathed swimming for 12 years of my life with an older sister in the sport and active swim parents. I developed a deep bonds from swimming friendships that endure to this day; something I wish on everyone who swims. My love for the sport rekindled after my daughter joined the team in 2022. Currently I work Abbvie in Lake County as a director of global engineering.
