Who is eligible to participate in the Glenbrook Swim School?

The Glenbrook Swim School welcomes children who will be 4 years old by the first day of lessons, although 5 years old is often seen as the age where they experience more success. We expect enrollees to be ready and eager to cooperate in a positive learning environment. Additionally, we accept children aged 2-3 to help them develop a love for water in a supportive setting separate from their parents.

What principles guide the Glenbrook Swim School?

Our philosophy at the Glenbrook Swim School is to provide lessons that prepare children for potential inclusion on a swim team, though participation in the Glenbrook Swim Club is not guaranteed. We focus on teaching all four strokes, including streamlines, turns, starts, and aspects of endurance training. Our program consists of 8 levels, with distinct competencies each child needs to master before progressing. We celebrate each child's individual achievements rather than focusing on their challenges.

Who will be teaching the lessons?

Our instructors primarily come from Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South, possessing strong swimming backgrounds and often being members of their school's swim team and the Glenbrook swim club. Each instructor is thoroughly trained to deliver high-quality swim lessons with care, compassion, and humor.

We maintain an instructor-to-student ratio of no more than 1:2, and we aim to provide 1:1 instruction whenever possible. Classes will have a minimum of 12 students and a maximum of 24, filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Where and when are the lessons conducted?

Lessons are hosted at Glenbrook North High School, primarily in the 6-lane pool, which feature shallow waters ideal for instruction. Higher levels may be in the 8-lane competition pool.

Will I receive a confirmation email upon registration?

You will NOT receive a confirmation email after registration; however, you will get specific instructions about your lessons during the week prior to the session's start.

What should I bring to lessons?

Participants should bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, and a smile.

What is the refund policy? Can my child make up lessons if they miss a week?

Due to limited enrollment, refunds will only be considered for medical emergencies. Absences due to illness or other conflicts will not qualify for refunds. Additionally, make-up lessons will not be offered to accommodate the high demand of the program.

Who can I contact if I have further questions about the Glenbrook Swim School?

For inquiries, please reach out to Kelly Brown via email at [email protected].
