GSC Hosts Inaugural 10 & Under Illinois Swimming Championships

Callan Heidkamp

This weekend Glenbrook Swim Club had the honor of hosting the first ever 10 & Under Illinois Swimming Championships at Glenbrook North High School. With the help of GSC family donations and volunteers our very own Program Director, Kelly Brown, knocked it out of the park. For those that did not get to see the meet, I've never seen the pool deck and the pool stands completely full. Thank you so much to everyone that gave their time and energy to help us run such a successful meet.

Kelly was the mastermind behind the biggest surprise, our very own GSC (GTAC) and GBS Alum, Olivia Smoliga handing out awards and signing basically anything the swimmers wanted. Along with fellow olympian, Jay Litherland, they made what was already a special weekend even more amazing. I'm so proud of our coaches. I'm so proud of our parents. And I'm both proud and in awe of how many of our older swimmers were on deck timing and helping run the meet. So many coaches from other teams pointed out how awesome it was to see that.

CLICK to see a great shout out from the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA).

Also this weekend, and where I was the whole time, was the 2025 Illinois Swimming Winter Senior Championships at UIC. We had a strong group of 16 swimmers at the meet with a lot of great swims, and a few podiums. This includes, but not limited to, Shay Donovan getting first place in the 200 Breast by going her first Winter Junior Nationals cut. Check out the GSC Instagram for more.

This coming weekend we have both the 11-14 Championships at FMC and Speedo Sectionals in Rochester, MN. Join me in wishing all our swimmers the best of luck!

And a huge round of applause for our GSC team and community!
