DCST Wins Winter Classic DCST won the Winter Classic with 5,764.5 points which was well ahead of second place Dundee which had 2,396.5. As a team, DCST had a whopping 473 new individual career best times (out of 816 swims or 58%). Furthermore, the team had 10 individual swims which surpassed the District Qualifying Time Standard for the first time this year, and we had an extremely impressive 45 individual swims which surpassed the Area Qualifying Time Standard for the first time this year. DCST’s Daniel Hein sets his 2nd State Record On the second day of the DCST Winter Classic, Daniel Hein set the Illinois State Record for the 9 – 10 year old boys in the 50 yard Butterfly with a time of 28.85. Last month, he set the State Record in the 50 yard Freestyle.

DCST improved its dual meet record to 9 – 1 with a 429 – 303 victory of visiting Leaning Tower (Niles, IL) YMCA. As a team, DCST had 181 new career best individual swims (out of a possible 299 or 61%), including 14 first time district qualifying times, 6 new swims which surpassed the area qualifying time standard, and 1 new national qualifying time. Gracelets In a show of support for Grace Waller and her healing process, DCST is selling “AMAZING GRACE" bracelets or Gracelets. The prices of the Gracelets are $2 a piece. One hundred percent of the money received for these Gracelets will be donated to cancer research in Grace’s name. They are available in both youth and adult sizes. DCST Finishes 2nd at Joliet USS Meet Once again, a small DCST squad performed extremely well against some much larger teams. DCST was only the 6 th largest team at the Joliet USS meet with 45 swimmers, but finished second only to Oswego which had 189 athletes in the meet. Another way to look at the scoring is DCST scored 26.7 points per swimmer compared to Oswego’s 7.6 points per swimmer. DCST had 175 personal best times in the meet. DCST Swimmers Impressive at Mid-States; Hein Sets State Record DCST swimmers had an impressive showing at the 2009 Mid-States Meet. Ten DCST swimmers were a part of a 105 Illinois All-Star team which competed against teams from Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. The biggest DCST highlight of the meet was Daniel Hein setting a new Illinois State Record in winning the 9 – 10 Boys 50 yard Freestyle! The previous record was set back in 1991. DCST suffered its first dual meet loss of the season by losing 458 – 429 to host Illinois Valley. DCST did beat Ottawa and Belvidere in the quadrangular meet. DCST’s swam well at their first meet after the holiday break in finishing second at the David Wolf Invitational. DCST with 49 swimmers scored 1,432 to finish behind only the host team, Belvidere, who scored 1,863.5 points had 88 swimmers entered in the meet. DCST had 59 personal best times. DCST had 10 swimmers selected to represent Team Illinois at the Midstates Championships on January 10 – 11, 2009 in Indianapolis, IN. Team Illinois will be taking on all-star teams from the states of Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. With a total of only 113 swimmers selected from the entire state of Illinois, DCST is very proud to have the 10 swimmers listed below selected for this honor.
