North Irvine Knights and The Irvine Swim League

The North Irvine Knights is a "city" swim team and part of the Irvine Swim League.  Our practices and home meets are held at Portola High School Aquatic Center. We have a 25 yard by 50 meter competition pool with a near uniform depth of 7ft. the pool can be configured for both short course yards and long course meters competition. We also have ample parking!

The Irvine Swim League (ISL) is a developmental summer swim league for youth who live in Irvine. The league emphasizes water safety, stroke instruction, and individual improvement.  It must be noted that the ISL is not a "learn to swim" program.  The vision of the ISL is to introduce the sport of swimming to youngsters who live in Irvine. That said, to participate on our ISL team, swimmers must be "Water Safe".  If your child is not water safe, but would still like to learn to swim, please see the City of Irvine learn to swim programs available here.  Once your child is water safe, he/she will be welcomed into the North Irvine Knights Family!

WHAT TO EXPECT:

During the first week of practice, ISL coaches watch swimmers to evaluate whether the swimmer is indeed "water safe" and if the swimmer is ready to be on an ISL team. The North Irvine Knights as well as the other ISL teams reserve the right to remove swimmers from the team if they are not water safe, as this could pose a hazard to the swimmer or to other swimmers.

We practice five (days) a week.  Monday through Friday swimmers we practice as a team.  On these days, coaches  provide both group and individual instruction on the various swim strokes, preparing Knights swimmers for swim meets against other ISL swim teams.  As our team is made up of swimmers from five (5) years to eighteen (18) years of age, events for particular age groups are as follows:

  • Swimmers ages (5-6) (7-8) years of age participate in 25-yard race events at ISL meets. They may compete in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke events and may also participate in relays.  Swimmers may not compete in more than three (3) individual events and in (1) relay event (total of four [4] events) per meet.
  • Swimmers ages (9-10) (11-12) (13-14) (15-18) participate in 50-yard freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke events in ISL meets, as well as the 100-yard individual medley event and may also be selected to participate in relays.   Swimmers may not compete in more than three (3) individual events and in (1) relay event (total of four [4] events) per meet.
