FAQs

SST Short Course Registration Packet 2024-2025 Here

Sheridan Swim Team Welcome Packet

Q: What is the difference between the Short Course season and the Long Course season?
A: Short-course meets in a 25-yard pool. The swim season runs from late August to March.
Long-course meets are in 50-meter pools. The season runs from April to July.

Q: Does my child have to compete in USA or River Country swim meets?
A: All meets are optional. Your swimmer can also just select to swim in as few or many
sessions of the meet if it is a weekend travel event.

Q: What should I do if my child is going to miss a practice due to illness or another conflict?
A: You do not need to notify a coach if your swimmer will miss practice. If your swimmer is
going to be gone for a lengthy amount of time, emailing the coach or letting them know at
practice is appreciated but not necessary.
As your swimmer progresses through the age groups, more practice times are offered and
encouraged, but swimmers are not expected to be at every practice. Find a schedule that
works for your swimmer within the practices offered.

Q: Who can attend USA short course and long course meets, and who can attend River Country
meets?
A: All AG1-Senior level swimmers who have a USA swimming membership may compete in the
various short course and long course meets throughout the season.
River Country meets will be listed with River Country in the title. Those registered in the River
Country summer session can attend as many meets as they wish. Swimmers registered for
Long Course in our AG1-Senior practice groups may also attend River Country meets.
River Country swimmers cannot attend the seasonal Long Course meets as they require a USA
swimming membership and a different practice group.

Q: What are the Qualification meets listed under events and who can attend those meets?
A: Qualification meets require that the swimmer has received a USA regional or champs(state)
qualification time for an event in order to register and compete at these meets.

Q: What is the difference between the Flex Membership and Premium Athlete membership
through USA swimming?
A: USA Swimming offers two options for swimmer registration. The Flex membership
(approximately $20) allows the swimmer to compete in 2 meets during the membership year
(September-July). This is a great option for beginning swimmers and those trying out the sport.
The premium membership (approximately $87) allows swimmers to compete in as many meets
as they wish. If you select Flex and change your mind throughout the year, you may also
upgrade and pay the difference later.
Our team is a member of USA Swimming and this membership is required even if your
swimmer will not be participating in meets (Please see link above).

Q: If my swimmer travels to an out-of-town meet, where do families stay?
A: Families can choose to stay at any hotel of their choice.
