Shreveport became a satellite location of The Bulldog Aquatic Club in November of 2023 with about 40 members.
A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE
The new satellite location of The Bulldog Aquatic Club in Shreveport is Southside Swim Club which has a strong tradition of excellence. This location has been home to many teams, most notably the City of Shreveport Swim Team. The Legacy and Heart of COSST is felt and will live on under the BAC name.
COSST produced many nationally ranked athletes over the years including several Junior National Champions, Senior National Finalists, National Age Group Champions, and Olympic Trial Qualifiers. Among them was a young man named Damon McCoy whom many coaches consider as the best swimmer to ever come from the state of Louisiana. His extraordinary talent was evident shortly after joining COSST in 1975. He quickly rose to the national level setting several Age Group records and later qualifying for the Olympics. Damon was tragically taken before his prime after a brief, gallant battle with bone cancer. His spirit lives on at Southside and each year we proudly host the Damon McCoy Invitational in memory and honor of our city's most accomplished swimmer. The meet now hosts more than 400 swimmers from the Southern Region. More about Damon McCoy can be found here; The Damon McCoy Story.
OUR HISTORY RUNS DEEP
The history of Shreveport's first year-round competitive swim team can be traced back to 1949 when Jack Jordan, regarded as the founding father of competitive swimming in Shreveport -- if not Louisiana -- organized the Shreveport Swim Club and held their first practices at the Municipal Pool.

- 1964 - Jack Jordan opens Southside Swim Club and founds his new team, the Southside Flying Fish.
- 1974 - The indoor 25-yard pool opens at Southside Swim Club. Several teams merge with the Southside Flying Fish to form the City of Shreveport Swim Team. COSST receives its USA Swimming charter.

- 1978 - The outdoor 50-meter pool is constructed.
- 1988 - The Shreveport Invitational is renamed the Damon McCoy Invitational, drawing hundreds of swimmers from the Southern Region to Shreveport each summer.
