Our mission is to create a culture that promotes safety and instills confidence in the water.  To achieve this, we have developed a curriculum structured with learn-to-swim skills at the forefront, followed by competitive stroke instruction, and taught with small instructor to participant ratios.  This ensures each participant is given the attention necessary to introduce them to the foundational skills essential to not only swim efficiently but more importantly keep safety first when in or around large bodies of water.  Lessons are offered in private (ages 3+) or semi-private (ages 4+) formats.

CURRICULUM  While the content is detailed, the concept is simple.  Our curriculum is organized so that skills to keep your child safe not only in but around the water come first and build into swim team preparation.  Why this format?  These life-saving skills coexist as the foundation for competitive swimming.  Controlled breathing, floating comfortably, rolling from the stomach to the back for air - all seemingly simple yet vital skills with which to be comfortable in order to make learning to move through the water that much simpler and effortless.

CLOSED POOL DECK POLICY  We are committed to helping our lessons participants achieve as much as possible during their time with us and preserving a minimal distraction learning environment.  While guests are welcome to remain at our facility during your lesson, we ask you remain seated in our facility's bleachers in an effort to minimize distraction. If your participant appears to be more focussed on your presence, you may be asked to step out in order to regain focus.

PARKING  Any space in the Lutcher High School parking lot, St. James Parish School Board parking lot, or back lot across from the Dog Pound is available for parking to all guests visiting St. James Parish Schools Aquatic Center.

DAILY PROCEDURES

  • We recommend participants be dressed and ready for swimming as well as using the restroom prior to arrival.  Anyone beyond age 4 will not be permitted into opposite-sex restroom facilities.
  • DAY 1: Arrive 15 minutes early to take your time seeing the facility, meet your instructor, and get acclimated.  Participants should have a towel that stays with them.  Swim caps and goggles are optional, but goggles will not be permitted until the participant can prove they are comfortable underwater with their eyes open.  Children under three years of age or not toilet trained must wear a reusable swim diaper (disposable diapers not allowed) during lessons.
  • DROP OFF: Please wait with your child until their instructor is available as they may be tending to a previous lesson.
  • PICK UP: Our instructors are committed to communicating your child’s progress with you each day.  Please be prompt in collecting your child to allow our instructors the time necessary to engage with you and prepare for their next lesson.

GRADUATION DAY  The last 10 minutes of your child’s last lesson are dedicated to them showing you what they learned during their time with us!  Each participant will receive a progress report as a keepsake of the feats they accomplished.

SAFETY

  • Children not toilet trained by the start of their first lesson are required to wear a reusable swim diaper while in the water.  This is to ensure the best quality environment we can provide for our guests!  We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this matter.
  • Low participant to instructor ratios assist in ensuring your child's safety.

WAITLIST POLICY  When all available spaces within a session are filled, those participants who register afterward will be placed on the previously filled session’s waitlist.  Participants registered on a waitlist will only be enrolled in the desired session when space becomes available.  Any participant enrolled in a session from the waitlist will receive notification of enrollment via email in the order in which they enrolled.

TRANSFER POLICY  There will be no class transfers made after the first lesson of the originally scheduled session takes place.  Session transfer requests will be honored contingent upon the request being made by the Friday prior to the originally scheduled session.  If the desired session is full, the requesting participant will be registered on the session’s waitlist and only enrolled if space becomes available.  If the desired session has a waitlist, the requesting participant will be registered on the session’s waitlist, but those waitlisted prior will be enrolled before transfer requests.

MAKE-UP POLICY  Lessons will rarely be cancelled by weather due to our indoor capability.  Any lessons that are cancelled, however, will be rescheduled at the convenience of St. James Parish Schools Aquatic Center.  Any lessons missed on behalf of participants are not subject for rescheduling.

CANCELLATION POLICY  Only lessons cancelled seven days in advance of the session's start date are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations made within 3 days of the session's start date are eligible for half refunds. Cancellations made anytime thereafter have no refund eligibility.
