Great Waves Aquatics

Mission Statement

To provide an opportunity for each swimmer to attain his/her potential in competitive swimming through a structured, challenging, and supportive environment that cultivates the mind, body and spirit of each individual to lead to a greater sense of community and team. We believe that success is the result of a constant pursuit of excellence in stroke technique and intelligent training. Our goal is to help swimmers develop a life-long appreciation for the sport of competitive swimming and learn lessons from their involvement that can be implemented into all facets of their lives.

 In pursuit of this goal, it is our belief that each swimmer will benefit from the following;

1.Character Development - understanding the value of hard work and commitment, learning to contribute to the team effort, and enhancing one's self-image. To learn how to deal with life issues, focusing on goal setting (short and long term) while also learning how to manage time and energy.

2. Internal Rewards - experiencing the unique satisfaction that follows a 100% unconditional commitment. We encourage swimmers to set reasonable and logical goals and to strive for excellence even when they experience short-term setbacks, thus learning how to get away from the social mentality of instant gratification and learning how to deal with the peaks and valleys of life's trials.

3.Competitive Attitude - you are competing with yourself. Individual improvement is more important than you place in the race. At the same time, consideration for fellow teammates, opponents, officials, coaches and parents is just as important as how you swim. We encourage support for others, positive attitudes and good sportsmanship.

TO BE THE BEST SWIMMER YOU CAN BE:

1.    Practice, practice, practice!  Hard, smart and with intent. With open ears and mind. If you practice hard and consistently: you will be a better swimmer!

2.    Eat healthy, drink lots of water and get plenty of sleep.  Treat your body well.

3.    Listen to your body, if you need rest or a break- take a rest or break! We don’t want to burn kids out of swimming.

4.    Respect your coaches, parents and team mates.  Be a leader and help to create a great atmosphere at practice, meets, and team events.
