Kids Kamps

During the summer of 2011 we ran our first Let’s Swim Bahamas Kids Kamp in Man-O-War, Abaco. Since then we have had Kids Kamps in Exuma and Eleuthera. Lessons were in the sea – either on the beach and/or by constructing lane lines between docks.

We observed that most children in the islands can manage in the water, that is, tread water for 30 seconds, therefore the fear factor was easier to overcome. This allowed us to move to teaching stroke technique faster.

Building pools in the Family Islands is not practical because the settlements are scattered and sparsely populated. The high costs involved in building and maintaining a pool would unlikely be in anyone’s budget.

Kids Kamps in the Family Islands are best done in the summer months because of the following factors: warm water, use student coaches, kids looking for things to do.

Let’s Swim Bahamas is presently looking for a person who will head up developing our Kids Kamp program in the Nassau and the Family Islands.
