Empowering Youth Leaders Through Swimming

 

Learn to Swim Level 1:

This 30-minute class is for children at least 3 years old and are able to follow the directions of the instructor without their parent being in the water. Students in this level may be apprehensive of the water and are unable to float or glide in the water unassisted.

 

Level 1 (Advancement Goals):

-Blow Bubbles.

-10 relaxed bobs with air exchange.

-Front Float (10 + seconds) with recovery to a standing position.

-Back Float (10+ seconds) with recovery to a standing position.

-Front Glide in streamline from ready position (5+ seconds in proper body position).

-Back Glide in streamline from ready position (5+ seconds in proper body position).

-Exit the pool without the use of a ladder.

 

Learn to Swim Level 2:

This 30-minute class is for children that are novices swimmers. Students in this class are comfortable in the water, can blow bubbles and may be able to float and glide a short distance unassisted with face in the water.

 

Level 2 (Advancement Goals):

-Front Kick in Streamline (5 yards).

-Back Kick in Streamline (5 yards).

-Swim Freestyle with basic rhythmic breathing. (5 yards).

-Swim Backstroke (5 yards).

-Transition from freestyle to backstroke.

-Jump in overhead water and return to wall independently.

-Retrieve underwater objects.

 

Learn to Swim Level 3:

This 30-minute class is for swimmers working towards swimming 1/2 the length of a 25-yard pool unassisted and have no fear of deep water. Swimmers should be able to swim freestyle and backstroke a 1/4 length of the pool and jump into deep water and return to the wall unassisted. 

 

Level 3 (Advancement Goals):

-Swim Freestyle with proper technique (15 yards with side breathing).

-Swim Backstroke with proper technique (15 yards).

-Jump in and swim in deep water.

-Tread water for 30 seconds.

-Sitting dive (headfirst) into deep water.

 

  

Learn to Swim Level 4:

This 30-minute class is for swimmers not afraid of deep water and working to swim a length of the pool Freestyle and Backstroke. Swimmers should be able to tread water for 1 minute. Swimmers who can perform multiple laps in a row with adequate technique may be ready to join the first level of Parkland Swim Club, Enrichment Mini's.

 

Level 4 (Advancement Goals):

-Swim Freestyle with proper technique (25 yards with bilateral).

-Swim Backstroke with proper technique (25 yards).

-Swim rudimentary (basic) Breaststroke (15 yards).

-Swim rudimentary (basic) Butterfly (15 yards).

-Tread water for 1 minute.

-Kneeling dive (headfirst) into deep water.

-Standing dive (headfirst) into deep water.
