Melissa Besz Head Coach

Missi has been a Marlin since the age of 5.  She swam for the Valley Forge Stingrays (current UM Stingrays) for 13 years and was a member of the Upper Merion High School Team. She went on to swim at Shippensburg University.  Missi was a coach of the Marlins and Wayne Swim and Tennis Centre for years and then took a step back when she was raising her own children (CJ, Carter, Justin and Maura - who were all Marlins).  Missi was excited to come back and coach this year.  During the day, Missi is the School Counselor at Gulph Elementary.  

Corey Besz Sr. Head Coach

Corey began swimming at the age of 5.  He swam for the Allentown YMCA, Emmaus Aquatic Club and Allen High School.  Corey went on to swim at Shippensburg University, specializing in backstroke and butterfly.  Corey was a Marlins coach for years.  He stepped back from coaching about 10 years ago to be able to see his kids play in a variety of sports (CJ, Carter, Justin and Maura - all Marlins), but continued to be involved and on the UMAC board.  Corey has been coaching summer swimming at Picket Post Swim Club since 2004.  He has also been the Head Boys Coach at Upper Merion High School for 25 plus years.  During the day, he is a Health and Physical Education Teacher at Upper Merion High School.  Corey was involved in the planning for our new pool and is excited to be back on deck with our Marlins!

Michaela Kiczula Assistant Coach

Michaela started her swimming journey at age five with the Marlins and King of Prussia Swim Club, she honed her skills across various teams, including NAAC and Markley Farms, before returning to swim for the Marlins, Stingrays, and the Upper Merion High School team. A graduate of Bloomsburg University, Michaela began coaching the Marlins in 2017. She is dedicated to fostering a new era of swimmers, sharing her love for the sport and her passion for the stroke butterfly.  During the day, Michaela is a Special Education Paraprofessional at Caley Elementary School.

Paige Dunlap Assistant Coach

Paige started as a Minnow at the age of 5 and spent 13 years as a dedicated Marlin. She continued swimming through Episcopal High School, where she served as captain her senior year. Paige’s strokes were backstroke and butterfly. Her earliest memory of swimming is testing how long she could hold her breath on the side of the middle school pool at a minnows practice. When she’s not on the pool deck, Paige is a professional gardener and spends her weekends as a proud employee of Muffins, owned and operated by Coach Paul, her fiance.  Paige is excited to finally be a Marlin again!

Paul Salamy Assistant Coach
Coach Paul first started swimming as a minnow and swam for the Marlins through high school. Paul a.k.a Paulie, also swam for the King of Prussia Swim Club which later became the Upper Merion Stingrays, and the Markley Farms Sharks. In high school, Paul was a part of the swim, water polo and lacrosse teams all four years. He then went on to play water polo at Boston University, where he studied business finance and strategy. You might see coach Paul around the community in The Hedgehog Grill Food truck or flipping pancakes in his restaurant, Muffins.
Rebekah Loney Assistant Coach

Becky began competitively swimming on the Upper Merion School team.  She graduated from Temple University with a degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.  Becky began teaching in Upper Merion in 2001 and started coaching the Marlins the same year!  She took some time off from teaching and coaching to be home with her 3 girls - Amelia, Mallory and Bridget - all students in the Upper Merion School District. Becky is so excited to be back on pool deck with the Marlins.  Becky works full time as a Hospitality Manager and Event Coordinator.  

Alexander Hoy Assistant Coach

Alex began swimming for the Marlins at the age of 5.  He also swam in the summer for the Upper Merion Stingrays and swam through high school at Upper Merion High School.  Alex was also a 4 year varsity Water Polo player at Upper Merion.  He went on to play Water Polo at Mount Saint Marys. Alex recently graduated high school in May, 2025 and works the Upper Merion Township during the day.  He also helps coach the Upper Merion High School Water Polo team.  Alex was excited to come back on pool deck and coach our team!

Sarah Kelly Assistant Coach

Sarah began swimming at age 5 in the Marlins Minnow program, and continued swimming until senior year. In addition to being a former Marlin, Sarah also swam for Markley Farms and Upper Merion Stingrays during the summers growing up as well the Upper Merion High School team. She is currently a senior at Villanova University, studying Secondary Education. She is student teaching at Upper Merion Middle School. In the summer, Sarah coaches the UM Stingrays. She is also a proud employee of the Hedgehog Grill owned by Coach Paul. Sarah is super excited for this season and to be a part of the Marlins community!

Maura Besz Assistant Coach

Maura began swimming for the Minnows at age 4.  She has been a Marlin for 14 years.  She also swims for Picket Post Swim Club in the summer and lifeguards on the Ocean City Beach Patrol.  Maura is a senior at Upper Merion High School where she also plays field hockey and lacrosse.  She helps out with our Minnows Pre Team program and with our beginner swimmers.  

Kyle Greene Assistant Coach
Kyle Greene began swimming competitively at the age of 6 for the West Philadelphia Serpents. He continued his swim career with Germantown Academy Aquatic Club and Upper Merion High School. When at Upper Merion he was a member of the water polo, swim and crew team. Kyle later concluded his swimming career at Bloomsburg University where he specialized in sprint fly and free. He also serves as an Assistant coach for Arcadia University. Kyle joined the marlins in 2018. Now, with a new swimming facility, he is super excited for the new era for the Marlins.
Carson Bowes Assistant Coach
Coach Carson is a lifelong Marlin, first joining the team when he was in second grade. After swimming at Franklin & Marshall College, he came back to coach for the Marlins in 2012. Since 2015, he has served as head coach. He also is a head coach of the Upper Merion High School Girls Swim Team, and spends his summers coaching with the Picket Post Swim Team. Now, with a brand new pool, he is excited to kick off a new era of Marlins swimming. Carson has stepped back to be an assistant/team mentor as he pursues his teaching certification. During the day, Carson is a special education paraprofessional at Upper Merion High School.
