Marlins Refund Policy

The Marlins board discussed and agreed to the following refund policy:

  1. Medical emergencies will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
  2. For the Minnows, Stroke and Turn Clinic, Spring Team Training, and Spring Swim lessons programs - participants must cancel before the second class or practice to receive a full refund (less processing fee; see below). No refunds will be provided after that date.
  3. For the SAL Team Season -- If the participant withdraws before the second week of practice, a refund (less processing fee, non-UMAC fees, and equipment fees; see below) will issued. If the participant withdraws after the first week but before October 31, the family would be refunded the team fee, less $250.
  4. For the Extended USA/AAU programs and the Summer USA programs, 50% of fees may be refunded for participants who cancel during the first week. No refunds are offered after the first week.
  5. Team fees will not be prorated.
  6. All refunds are subject to a $40 processing fee.
  7. Any Non UMAC fees included in the registration are not eligible for refund.  Ex. USA Swimming registration, personal equipment costs, etc

The board also agreed that the refund policy should be printed on registration forms and made available on the website.

The Marlins refund policy follows these principles:

  1. Programs with limited enrollment: refunds are offered only for withdrawals that take place before the second class or practice. (Principle: if there is a wait list, we can offer the spot to someone else.) This covers Minnows.
  2. Programs of short duration (and less expense): refunds offered only for withdrawals before second class, so as to minimize volunteer effort and processing and encourage families to consider carefully before enrolling. This covers our fall clinic, spring team training, and spring lessons.
  3. Medical emergencies are handled on a case by case basis.
  4. Team fees are not pro-rated; late registrants must pay the full fee.
  5. SAL Team Fees may be refunded only before the second full week of practice. (It is a more serious commitment and thus it may take a practice or two for the swimmers to figure out if this is for them.) SAL Team Fees may be partially refunded at any point prior to Oct 31, less $250. (Oct 31 is chosen as start of competitive season, meets, etc. – the point at which we have incurred fixed costs that are difficult to change.)
  6. Extended USA/AAU Season: swimmers/divers should have a sense of what the expectations are (since they are already in the program); further, we must set fees and coaching schedules based on enrollment and thus incur fixed costs. The same is true for the USA Summer program. Thus, refunds for these programs given only during the first week of practice, and are subject to a $50 processing fee.
  7. All refunds are subject to a $40 processing fee.
  8. Any Non Marlin fees included in the registration are not eligible for refund.  Ex. USA Swimming registration, personal equipment costs, etc
  9. Refund deadlines apply regardless of whether the participant has actually participated in the program.
