West Cook Head Swim Coach

Job Title:          Head Coach of the Competitive Swim Team

POSITION SUMMARY

In collaboration with the Director of Youth and Aquatic Programming and Services, the Head Coach will be responsible for all practice and meet administration, planning, and implementation of a high-quality Competitive Swim Team Program.  The Head Coach will ensure the Y’s administration, fellow coaches and team families are receiving proactive communications related but not limited to team participants, parents, officials, team updates, schedules, and team activities and administration.  As well as ensuring daily practices, completing meet entries, seasonal scheduling, and supervision of assistant coaches as to. 

 

The Head Coach will focus on the following core performance indicators:  Team Enrollment and Retention, Individual Athletic performance, Overall Team Performance, Hosted Meet Performance and increasing the West Cook YMCA’s Team Club Recognition Level to the next level.  Although the Head Coach is expected to determine how to accomplish and achieve these goals, they are also invited to lean on the support of the YMCA Association teams and support functions. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS                        

  1. Oversees coaching for all West Cook YMCA competitive swim team training groups, schedules and secures practice facilities.  Designs and schedules practices to bring out the full potential of all swimmers and set fair and realistic goals and expectations.
  2. Ensures compliance with all YMCA Aquatic Safety protocols as well as all USA Swimming guidelines and safety protocols.  As well as works with Aquatics Operations Manager to ensure facility is safe for all team activities.
  3. Assures recruitment, hiring, training and development of team coaches and sets schedules for and directs coaching personnel accordingly.  Most importantly ensure we have sufficient YMCA meet officials.
  4. Works with coaching staff to design trainings that develop, retain and bring out the potential of all levels of swimmers.  Commits to integrating character development elements in all participants, particularly youth.  Annually reevaluates and updates program goals and objectives as well as develops plans to achieve said goals.            
  5. Plays an important role in the new member/participant welcome process by helping members through the registration process, fielding questions, scheduling new swimmer evaluations outside of tryouts and being the main point of contact for swimmers and families on deck.

 

  1. Ensures timely and effective communications with coaches, athletes, parents, prospective members, and YMCA staff. Responds to all member and community inquiries and concerns in a timely manner. Updates parents and team on performance statistics. 
  2. Develops, monitors, and maintains guidelines of program budget to meet fiscal goals and objectives to reevaluate annually, with multi-year vision of program.  Maintains awareness of scholarship applications.
  3. Compiles program statistics to monitor and evaluate effectiveness of program. Keeps YMCA Leadership informed on program statistics.  Compiles, reviews, and evaluates the effectiveness of, and participation in, the program.
  4. Administers athlete registrations, monetary processing, and maintain records of coaching staff credentials with the use of Team Unify and DAXKO.
  5. Plans, implements, and coordinates both hosted swim meets with the use of Team/Meet Manager Software and Colorado timing equipment.
  6. In collaboration with the Marketing team ensures we are actively promoting and recruiting to grow enrollment and ensures the team website and team unify are up to date and functional for the team’s needs.
  7. Other duties and administrative support as assigned by the Director of Youth and Aquatic Programming and Services.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community
through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Serves as head swim team coach and
teaches the fundamentals of competitive swimming in a positive environment. As leader of the highly
competitive YDSC Gators swim team, the coach will provide every member an opportunity to improve
their skills be successful at his or her level of ability, from novice to elite-level competitors. Provides
Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA aquatic program(s). Develops an annual budget
for programs and work within the budget and overall YMCA financial policies in implementing programs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Supervises and directs program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA
objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community, in
accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with
community organizations.
2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel, coaches and volunteers as needed.

The Aquatic Coordinator assists the Associate Aquatics Director in the planning for and implements the YMCA aquatic programs which results in high quality, member focused programming. A core deliverable of the Aquatics Coordinator is to increase member retention, and participant satisfaction through aquatic programming. The Aquatic Coordinator is responsible for the direct oversight of swim lessons and water fitness programming and staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Oversees Swim Lessons and Water Fitness operations.
  2. Executes coordination of high-quality programming, by ensuring curriculum is followed and delivered effectively.
  3. The Aquatic Coordinator will assist the Associate Aquatic Director in building member relations and retention through aquatic programming and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

  6. Under the supervision of the Associate Aquatics Director. will conduct certification trainings for both Swim Lesson Instructors, and Lifeguards; including bi-monthly in-service training.
  7. Assists staff ensuring that shifts are covered, while acting as a substitute if needed.
  8. Responsible for compiling program statistics and using the data to drive results to meet monthly and annual targeted outcomes.

Champaign County YMCA HEAT

HEAT is a Y/USA Swimming club whose home is the Stephens Family YMCA of Champaign County, Champaign, IL. We have about 250 swimmers who range from the beginner to Olympic Trial qualifiers. We love to develop great kids in a positive environment fostering their mind, body and spirit.

 

Age Group Coach/Lead Coach

We are looking for a fun, positive coach to be the lead for our middle developmental group which range from athletes learning to use a pace clock to Age Group Championship qualifiers.

·         Coach Mon-Fri 2-3 hours a day plus a weekend practice (Sat or Sun)

Compensation

The hourly rate is based on experience, but this position generally pays between $12-$18 an hour. 20-28 hours a week depending on meet attendance. We pay for, or reimburse, all expenses related to certifications, as well as, hotel, per diem and mileage to meets.

Senior Head Swim Coach - Rockford IL

SUMMARY

The Senior Head Swim Coach has responsibility for development of character, confidence, swim skill and strength within swim team participants, while coordinating a full season, age/ability training program, and building positive family relationships.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coaches and oversees practices, plans workouts and goals for each practice, and coordinates a strength training program, tailored to the variable skills and abilities of swimmers.

  3. Attend Y Staff meetings, team coaches meetings, summer conference meeting and district meetings.
  4. Hire, train, schedule, support, and supervise assistant coaches
  5. Oversee Parent Committee, attending monthly PAC meetings, and direct and assist them as necessary, and reporting parent volunteer hours to Aquatic Director.
  6. Oversees communication: website, newsletters, meet information, handbooks, flyers, program books, handbooks, publicity, meet information and team records, utilizing the marketing department and Aquatic Director when necessary.
  7. Budget responsibilities in YMCA budget as well as Parent Committee budget
  8. Assist Aquatics Director as needed with other duties in the Aquatics Department and be prepared to be on call to assist Aquatics staff in the absence of the Aquatics Director.

ADDITIONAL BASIC DUTIES:

  1. Oversees all levels of swimming: Determines meet schedule for team, oversees individual and team entries, sets practice groups, practice schedule, designs and plans for all groups, and announces any appropriate changes
  2. Be on deck before swimmers enter the water and throughout the entire practice, directly coaching at least one group for the majority of practices.
  3. Ensure that attendance is being taken on a daily basis for all levels of swimmers, including Stingrays, Penguins, and Masters
  4. Instruct swimmers on proper swimming form and technique, correcting mistakes, and providing appropriate feedback on performance to each swimmer.
  5. Exhibit enthusiastic leadership, building interest among swimmers to attend team meets, and foster a culture of positive practice and swim meet experiences

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Swim Team Director is responsible for the planning, organization, delivery and quality of the two West Cook YMCA (TOPS) Competitive Swim Team Programs. Programs include but are not limited to the TOPS Swim Team and the Masters Swim Team.

·         We will be adding practice times at our Avery Family YMCA branch in Plainfield and are looking for coaches to lead the levels practicing at that site.  Coaches must be strong in fostering team spirit and unity, building positive relationships and developing stroke technique.

·         We will also be hiring a coach to be utilized for private instruction with our athletes in a one-on-one or small group setting.  This coach should be ASCA Level 2 certified and/or very proficient in correcting stroke technique as well as using technology such as an underwater camera, iPad, etc.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

·         Ideal candidates will have previous swim coaching experience and training.

·         Candidates must have availability in the afternoon/evening times and weekends.

·         YMCA coaches must be certified in lifeguarding, first aid and CPR before employment and will be subject to pre-employment screenings through YMCA and USA Swimming background checks.

 

COMPENSATION

Coaches will be paid an hourly wage, and other benefits include a full membership to the Greater Joliet Area YMCA and paid training opportunities.

Purpose: The role of the Aquatic Director is to provide administrative oversight and strategic direction to program areas, swim lessons, and related staff. In addition, aquatic safety and successful risk management procedures must be implemented. Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Work Environment and Benefits: The aquatic area was constructed in 1971 and is a 6 lane 25 yd multi-use pool. Candidates need to comprehend older aquatic environments to be humid with minimal ventilation. The candidate will have a choice of an office inside the pool area or outside the pool area. Work hours are flexible and vary depending upon meetings, trainings, instruction, etc. The salary range is $28,000 - $34,000 depending upon experience and qualifications.
