Loyola Blakefield Parents hold a vital role in providing opportunities for their swimmer(s) to reach their goals, while contributing to the growing success, vision and mission of LBA. Our parents understand that LBA swimmers "compete with character" in practice and at the swim meets, and that is also reflected by the parents that are in the stands or volunteering on the pool deck.
It is important that our community knows that the swimmers hold the largest stake in their individual success, and that Swimmers have responsibilities that differ from Parents.
Swimmer Responsibilities: Love to Swim & Enjoy the Process (aka the Struggle)
- Being Prepared (suit, equipment, water bottle, ect)
- Ready to Learn Something New
- Reflect on your experience (good or bad) with the resolution to improve
- Attending Practices: Ex: 5 practices/wk, 9 practices/2wks
- Setting Short Term Practice & Performance Goals (Seasonal)
- Constructing Long Term Swimming Goals (Career)
- Committing to Being a Positive Teammate, In and Out of the Water
Parent Responsibilities: Love & Support your Child
- Transportation to Practices & Meets: Arrive 20-40 minutes Early vs “On Time” (Late)
- Fueling and Refueling Swimmers: PB&J, Chocolate Milk
- Meet Sign-Ups: Please register your swimmers before each Seasonal Deadline
- Keeping a Long Term Perspective for your child, because this is a process that yields as many challenges as there are rewards.
- Volunteering allows LBA to host and run successful meets for our members and visiting coaches, swimmers and parents. Some of those positions involved are Timing, Concessions, Safety Marshall, Clerk of Course and Officiating.
