Age Group 1&2 Swimmers’ Competition Suit Guidelines 2019-2020

1 – Racing Suits for 12 and Unders –

As of September 1, 2019, Maryland Swimming has banned tech suits for 12 and under swimmers.

Tech suits are designed to reduce a swimmer’s drag in the water, and in effect, boosting performance. LBA coaches want our developing swimmers to value hard work, competition, skill and technique as pillars to performance.

We recommend that all Age Group swimmers have a designated “meet suit”. Aquablade is generally the top choice for meet suits that are not tech suits. LBA 12 and Under swimmers should wear a blue or black Aquablade or any snug-fitting suit for meets.

2- Tech Suits for 13 and over swimmers –

While not required, swimmers who are 13 years or older on the first day of a championship meet may wear a FINA-approved tech suit. At all other meets, any snug-fitting suit is recommended. For girls, tie-back (eg Jolyn suits with ties) are not permitted in any competition by USASwimming (ok for warmup).

Listed below that are some of the tech suits available out there. I noticed that when I was looking these up, they are all specified as "tech suits", which may help you wade through and categorize all of the suits that are available.

Please note that an Aquablade is acceptable for 12 and under swimmers at meets (approved by MD Swimming and USA Swimming). Not sure why SwimOutlet etc. list it as a tech suit.
