MARYLAND GLITZ CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

 

TINY TOT TUMBLING (AGES 3-6)

This class is designed for athletes that are just beginning their tumbling career. Athletes will focus on creating a strong tumbling foundation while learning basic tumbling skills such as forward rolls, handstands, cartwheels and bridges to prepare for tumbling 101

BEGINNER NOVICE - TUMBLING 101 (AGES 5 & up)

No prerequisites – This class is designed for the athlete that is just beginning their tumbling career. Athletes will focus on creating a strong tumbling foundation while learning basic tumbling skills such as forward rolls, handstands, cartwheels and bridges while advancing to front and back walkovers and combination skills.

ADVANCE TUMBLING LEVEL 1 - FRONT/BACK WALKOVER (AGES 5 & up)

Athletes must have mastered all the skills being taught in the previous levels (Tumbling 101). Athletes will work on the fundamentals of a back walkover, front walkover, backward extension roll, switch kick, valdez; including drills, strength training and building confidence to throw a variety of skills on multiple surfaces. As athletes continue mastering these advanced tumbling skills, Athletes will focus on generating more strength and power through their back walkovers while combining skills. Until the final step to mastering the walkover and connecting skills. Athletes will focus on a series of skills, owning their skills, fine-tuning technique, and generating power to prepare for back handspring class.

BEGINNER LEVEL 2 - BACK HANDSPRING (AGES 6 & up)

Athletes will work on the fundamentals of a back handspring; including drills, strength training and building confidence to throw a back handspring on multiple surfaces. As athletes continue mastering a back handspring, Athletes will focus on generating more strength and power through their back handsprings while combining skills with their handspring. Until the final step to mastering the handspring and connecting skills. Athletes will focus on a series of skills, owning their handspring, fine-tuning technique and generating power to prepare for Tuck class.

ADVANCED LEVEL 2 - BACK HANDSPRING (AGES 6 & up)

Athletes will work on the fundamentals of a running series, front handspring, flyspring, handspring step out; including drills, strength training and building confidence to throw a back handspring on multiple surfaces. As athletes continue mastering a back handspring, Athletes will focus on generating more strength and power through their back handsprings while combining skills with their handspring. Until the final step to mastering the handspring and connecting skills. Athletes will focus on a series of skills, owning their handspring, fine-tuning technique and generating power to prepare for Tuck class.

BEGINNER LEVEL 3 - TUCKS (AGES 6 & up)

Athletes must have mastered all the skills being taught in all previous levels (back handspring class). Athletes will focus on tuck shapes, bounding for tucks and mastering body control to safely execute a running, punch front and standing tuck on multiple surfaces. Athletes will focus on building confidence in their skills as well as combining skills through to a running tuck and connecting specialty skills; series back handsprings. Athletes will continue to build strength and core to increase height of tuck and prepare athletes for next level class (Layout and Fulls).

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL ¾ - LAYOUTS & FULLS (AGES 6 & up)

Athletes will learn the correct arm placement, body shape, set and form to throw a layout. As athletes continue to master the Layout,Standing Front Tuck, Side Aerial, Front Aerial, Whip, Punch Front Step Out. Athletes will continue to fine-tune the technique as well as add specialty tumbling through to a layout and front tumbling skills through to layout to prepare for working on fulls.

To begin twisting athletes must have a layout. This class is designed to teach the mechanics of a single twisting full. As athletes progress the next step on the way to becoming a master twister. Athletes will begin to add specialty skills to the full and introduce the double full and standing full.

FLEX & STRETCH (AGES 4 & up)

This class is designed for athletes to learn flexibility as well as body control. Athletes will focus on strong body lines and push their skills further. Concentration will be on hitting skills with the proper technique.

JUMPS (AGES 4 & up)

“Jumps to Make Em Jealous” Jump until you cannot jump anymore! Work on technique, motion placement and learn the tricks of the trade to that hyperextended jump. This class is an intense 30-minute workout.
