GET FASTER Through Technique!

Offered at Walled Lake and Waterford sites

--  (choose from Coach Miranda, Coach Kelton, Coach Brad, Coach Sallie, or Coach Eddie)  --

The fastest and most successful swimmers in the world have one primary thing in common: they work on their technique and they ask a lot of questions. They want to understand things.  So, please ask away at both in person camps and online!

Get the most out of the session: Listen to the coach and their explanations for each exercise, drill or technique. Understand why they ask you to make corrections and how you can incorporate the changes into your own training.

Perhaps you or new to the sport or you already know how to swim really fast. This is your chance to pick up the little details about various parts of the swim strokes like body position, kicking, turnns, or the “catch."  Various things will be taught that will help improve your propulsion, reduce drag, enable you to drop time, and prevent injury.  Learn the lessons by looking for reasons the coach says what he or she says. Pick up on some of the particular drills or technique in order to enhance your swimming career.  Set goals and learn how to get in front of the competition!

Ask questions. Remember, the best swimmers in the world are all extremely inquisitive.  They are constantly observing how other athletes swim in order to determine what may or may not work for them.  You may be shown video or asked to go research those swimmers' technique through an online video.

Make sure you can hear the coach!    We want to make sure you take in as much as possible from each coach, but you must impelement the changes after you leave so all the help given will lead to your future success.  Remember: Access to Success is Thru the Mind!  Act on it!

When you leave…, be sure to write down the best parts of the session. Include anecdotes  that you heard during the day.  Perhaps you’ll take notes on the specific technique changes, the drills learned, or what to think about during drills.  Document the stories shared and the strategies your coach gave you to help you become successful.  This will encourage good learning habits and help swimmers become great students of their sport.  Start a "swimmig journal."

What to bring to your session? Swimmers should bring everything that they require for swimming:

  • A swimsuit
  • Cap, goggles
  • Towel(s)
  • Notebook
  • A water bottle with your name on it
  • A snack (please be mindful of those that may have peanut allergies)
  • Also, bring a jacket or sweatshirt to keep warm after you get out!
  • Equally as important – participants should come with an open mind, interested in learning new techniques, hear engaging stories, and overall become a faster and smarter swimmer!

We hope you enjoy the experience!  We strive to enhance our programs, reach more participants, and improve our service.  Please let us know of any suggestions YOU have to help the coaches improve.  You don't need to be on the Sailfish team as we will work with anyone with the desire to improve their swimming.

Most sessions can be set up on weekends or just before practice.  Scheduling is dependent upon the coach availability.

Also, remember that these private sessions should not interfere or replace practice!
