Passing of Founding Head Coach Kevin Storrs

Lester TREASURER:Olsson
It is with sadness that we share the news about the passing of Kevin Storrs, founding coach of NDAC. The Northern Dutchess Aquatic Club (NDAC) was born through tireless efforts by Kevin, the local swim community, and Bard College in the summer of 1994. NDAC is based on Kevin’s vision of a swimming family dedicated to old school YMCA values, focusing on not only the physical development of our swimmers but also the mental and emotional sides of the student athlete. Over the past decades, Coach Storrs and NDAC have regularly qualified and sent swimmers to the region’s most prestigious meets including Junior Olympics, Senior Metropolitan Championships, Speedo Sectional Championships, NCSA Junior Nationals and USA Junior Nationals.
“Coach”, as he was known to most NDAC swimmers, was an ASCA Level 4 certified coach, Metropolitan Swimming’s Senior Coach of the Year in 2010, and led NDAC to become one of the first Safe Sports Certified swim club in Metro. But he was much more than those titles and achievements to our swimmers and their families - “Coach” truly cared for our swimmers in and out of the water; he believed in setting realistic goals, but more importantly believed that those goals needed to be set by the swimmers and not outside influences; he had incredible passion for swimming but also believed in fun and taking time off; he wanted our swimmers to succeed in life, which meant more than fast times and competition; he eschewed teammate rivalry and always spoke of swimming as a team sport - Kevin touched so many lives and left a huge legacy which will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
