Hello Swim Families! As you are aware, there is a swim meet in Wichita this weekend that I (Coach Reid) will be attending with our swimmers participating in the meet. Unfortunately, all of my assistant coaches except for Coach Myles are unavailable this weekend, meaning we have to make some adjustments to tomorrow's practice. As Myles will be running the show entirely on his own, we have decided to cancel practice for the White and Blue groups for Saturday, April 26th. Coaching four very different groups all at once is...

Hello Swim Families! I am excited to announce that you may now sign up for the 2025 Little Apple Invitational! The entry deadline is Monday, June 9th at 5:00 pm. All swimmers are encouraged to participate regardless of experience! Summer League is also highly encouraged to come out and race. A great aspect about our meet is that it is finished...
Hello Swim Families! What follows is the warmup information for the Voorhees-Maxfield Invitational. A point of clarification: Meet Mobile calls this meet Voorhees-Maxwell... that is, for all intents and purposes, the name you should use when searching for this meet on Meet Mobile; however, the actual name of the meet is Voorhees-Maxfield. If this rhetoric seems unncessary, it is not; rather, it points to a silly typo on the meet host's part for a meet that I, a 34-year-old coach swam at "back in the day," as in 2005-2009. It...
Hello Swim Families! As we continue the preparation for the long course season, I would like to encourage all swimmers ages 8- to 12-years-old to attend the Jayhawk Swim Camp, May 26 - 30 in Lawrence, KS! This is an excellent time to go to a swim camp as it does not interfere with any swim meets, and it takes place the week before we move to City Park Pool. Furthermore, the KU Women's swim team will once again be joining us at the Little Apple Invitational this year--swimmers will...
Summer 1, Week 2, Technical and Conditioning Focus: Pacing and Control for Freestyle Macrocycle: Summer 1: March 23 – June 1 Mesocycle: March 23 – April 13: General Preparation Microcycle: March 30 – April 5 Pacing and Control for Freestyle Hello Swim Families! This week, we will focus on pacing and control for freestyle. Compared to last week’s 3-part epic, this week’s technical and conditioning focus is short. There are three types of freestyle (at least). There is sprint freestyle, which emphasizes power. There is middle-distance freestyle, which strikes a...

Macrocycle: Summer 1: March 24 – June 1 Mesocycle: March 24 – April 13: General Preparation Microcycle: March 24 – March 30 Catch, Pull, & Body Position Hello Swim Families! You’re really getting hit with a lot of swimming content this week! Today, I want to talk about why I highly emphasize flutter kick in Marlin’s training. While it might seem intuitive for a freestyle...

Welcome to email #2 of this week’s probably overly-in-depth explanations of our upcoming technical and conditioning focuses. Today, I would like to explain my formatting of these emails, specifically, the bullet points. Macrocycle: A season-long training plan...
Summer 2025 Week 1: Technical and Conditioning Focus: March 23 – March 29: Email 1 of 3 Macrocycle: Summer 1: March 23 – May 31 Mesocycle: March 23 – April 12: General Preparation Microcycle: March 23 – March 29 Catch, Pull, & Body Position Hello Swim Families! Welcome to the Summer 2025 swim season! Wait, what, it’s only March, how can it be “summer?” Fair question. I call this the summer season because, with one exception, the Sunflower State Games (July 20), every swim meet from now until August will...
