Team Triumph Has Historic MV District Championships
Team Triumph competed above and beyond expectations at the 2022 MV District Championships on February 11th-13th. To provide a little perspective of how far the team has come in just the past year, Team Triumph did not even have any swimmers who qualified for this meet in 2021. This year, we scored 7th out of 13 teams with 226pts. We also sent a total of 8 swimmers, with several of them winning events and most of them qualifying for finals. And, for the first time in Triumph history, our girls 11-12 200 Free relay placed third overall and qualify for champs with a time of 1:59.85. We are so proud of our swimmers and all the hard work that they put into this meet!
Below are some highlights of Team Triumph’s performance at the 2022 MV District Championships.
- Caleb Bare was able to set a personal best in the 200 Free and swim right on his personal bests in other events after being out of practice sick prior to the meet for nearly a month.
- Angelina Cottone proved herself to be one of the stars of the entire meet. She finished with five 1st place finishes and best times in 100% of her events (Most of them she set best times only two weeks prior at the Tiger Invite!). Most noteably, Angelina dropped a total of 10.56 seconds in her 200 free to take the win by only .3 seconds in a very close race! Her time of 2:15 makes her the fastest 11-12 girl on the team by almost 10 seconds! Angelina also scored 92 Points for Team Triumph. Way to go Angelina!
- Carter Monroe crushed the competition in the 200 Breaststroke, finishing 1st in the event in a 2:28.61 - nearly 8 seconds ahead of second place! He also scored 2 new Champs cuts (400 IM & 200 Breast) and 1 new bonus cut. Also, Carter dropped a total of 12.31 seconds in the 200 IM to qualify for finals in a 2:20.36. Carter Scored 52 points throughout the meet!
- Alyssa Ritter also proved to be a huge point scorer for the team with a total of 52 points. Alyssa narrowly missed the champs qualifying time in the 100 Free (by only .34 of a second!), but she is now the fastest Female 100 Freestyler on the Team with a time of 1:04.73! You’ll get it next time Alyssa!
- Alisson Shen also scored personal best times in every single event that she swam. Most notably dropping 4.29 seconds in her 100 butterfly for a time of 1:22.79.
- Anja Taylor was another star of the meet – dropping time every time she hit the water. Anja walked away with 100% best times, a new champs cut in the 50 breast, and a 1st place in the 50 breast. In the prelims of the 50 breast, Anja had shattered her previous best time by a full 2 seconds and qualified 2nd for finals that night. Little did the competition know, she had a lot more left in the tank for finals. Not only did Anja drop almost another full second from her time in the morning, but she also won the event with a very close finish in 38.12. Awesome job Anja!
- Riley Tinsley Swam two huge best times in the 100 free and 50 free. Riley posted a 1:01.89 in the 100 free dropping 3.04 seconds. He also swam a 27.21 in the 50 free knocking almost a full second off his previous best time that he set 2 weeks prior!
- Halley Waddill had an awesome meet – posting multiple best times along the way. Halley swam a 39.25 in the 50 freestyle shaving 1.52 seconds off her previous best time. She also time trialed the 50 backstroke in a heat all alone, and set a new personal best shaving almost 2 full seconds off her time! Way to go Halley!
Next up are the 2022 Open Champs and the 2022 14 & under champs. We are very excited to see some more fast swimming! Nice job to all who competed this past weekend!
Thanks,
Team Triumph
