Coaching Staff
Steve Romito Director of Performance

Coach Steve joined TEAM Charlotte in 2022. Coach Steve serves as TEAM's Director of Performance, Senior Division Lead, and coaches Senior 1 and Senior 2, as well as Presenior 1 and 2 in Matthews. Coach Steve is from Charlotte, where he has been involved in swimming for most of his life.  Prior to joining TEAM, Steve spent 2017-2021 as Head Coach of Sharks Aquatic Club in Shelby, NC. Prior to  SAC, Steve coached with New South Swimming in Charlotte for more than eight years.  While an assistant  and head coach at NSS, Coach Steve worked with all levels of the team - from beginning year-round swimmers to National and Junior World Championship Qualifiers, including NCS Select Camp and IMX Camp participants, State and Sectional Champions, NCS Zone Team members, State Record Holders, and Nationally Top 10 ranked athletes.  He has also twice been voted a member of the NCS Zone Team Coaching Staff. For 10 years prior to joining NSS, Steve ran a successful business as a self-employed swim instructor, and coached summer league, winter league, other year-round teams and Masters programs. Steve also served on the North Carolina Swimming Board of Directors for 6 years. Steve is now in his 26th year of coaching/teaching the sport of swimming, and is excited to be a part of the TEAM Charlotte family!

Kristina Bond Director of Operations

Coach Kristina joined TEAM Charlotte in 2015, and serves as TEAM's Director of Operations. Kristina completed her undergraduate education and swam collegiately at Queens University of Charlotte, graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and went on to complete a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management at UNC Greensboro. During her collegiate swimming career, Kristina was a CSCAA Scholar All-American, selected to the Conference Carolina’s Presidential Honor Roll, ConferenceAll-Academic Team, and served as a team captain her senior year. After serving as Head Age Group Coach from 2015-2017, Kristina transitioned into the Director of Operations role in early 2017. Kristina just finished her 10th season as Program Director & Varsity Head Swim Coach at Providence Day School, and in the summers is Head Coach at Carmel Country Club. Coach Kristina has been selected to coach on multiple North Carolina camps, including IMX Camp, A-Team Camp, Open Water Select Camp, Select Camp, Carolina Crown, and has served on the NC Zone Team Coaching Staff multiple times. Kristina was also selected by USA Swimming to serve on staff for National Open Water Select Camp and USA Swimming’s Southern Zone Select Camp. 

Tara Neltner Gold Division Lead

Tara joined TEAM Charlotte in 2019 and has been teaching swimming for 30 years. As TEAM's Gold Divison Lead, Tara oversees all 12 & Under programming and is the lead coach for Uptown Gold 2 and Gold 3. Tara swam collegiately for Centre College in Danville, KY.  She began her swimming journey as a student, refined her art as an athlete, and shares her love of the sport through instructing others. Her experience allows her to bring a unique combination of safety, instruction, and competitive swimming knowledge to her swimmers.  

Alecia Davis Pre-Senior Division Lead

Coach Alecia joined TEAM Charlotte in 2018. Alecia serves as TEAM's Pre-Senior Divison Lead, and leads TEAM Charlotte's Uptown Pre-Senior 1, and Gold 1 groups. Alecia was a competitive swimmer for 12 years, beginning at the age of nine and continuing through college at Queens University of Charlotte. During her years as a collegiate swimmer, Alecia was named to the Conference Carolina’s Presidential Honor Roll, the BGMC All-Academic Team, and was named a CSCAA Scholar All-American. Coach Alecia started coaching at age 15 as an assistant coach for her summer league team in Greensboro, NC. Alecia also taught swim lessons and coached through the YMCA, and SwimMAC's Swim School and Junior Swim League. In addition to TCS, Alecia has been a varsity swim coach at Providence Day School since 2014. Alecia received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and English Literature from Queens University of Charlotte and a Masters in Mathematics Education from East Carolina University. When she is not coaching, she is a fourth grade teacher at Greenway Park Elementary School, where she has been teaching since 2013. 

Rob Johnson Matthews Pre-Senior 2, Senior 3

Coach Rob joined TEAM Charlotte in 2009. Coach Rob has been a dedicated member of Team Charlotte for more than 15 years. Coach Rob  leads our TEAM101, Pre-Senior 2, and Senior 3 groups at our Matthews location, as well as assisting with our Gold 2 and Gold 3 groups. Rob swam collegiately at IUPUI in Indianapolis, where he was a top-10 swimmer in multiple conference events. Rob competed for many years as a masters swimmer, and has ranked top 10 in the country in his age group in multiple events. Coach Rob first relocated to Charlotte to work with Camp CARE, a camp for children and their siblings, ages 6-17, who have or had cancer. Rob has volunteered at Camp CARE for over 10 years. Before joining TEAM full-time, Rob was a Paraprofessional Educator for special needs students in Fort Mill for nearly 10 years. Rob was awarded Teacher of the Year for the 2013-2014 school year, and was nominated for district teacher of the year. On the pool deck, Rob has coached multiple age group state and sectional qualifiers. Coach Rob believes that a positive attitude will take you far and a strong work ethic will take you farther!

William Keith Lead Coach

Coach William joined TEAM Charlotte in 2024, and is excited to be leading Senior 2 and Presenior 2 at our Uptown location. Prior to joining TEAM, Coach William spent five years as Head Site Coach at MSA’s Indian Trail location. On the pool deck, William has coached swimmers from the very beginner year-round club swimmers to multiple senior state and sectional qualifiers at both the age group and senior level.  He also has coached multiple futures qualifiers and swimmers who have continued their swimming at the collegiate level.  He has also worked with NCS Select Team & Zone Team members, including serving on the NCS Zone Team Coaching Staff.  Locally, William coached the Ardrey Kell High School Swimming & Diving teams from 2007 – 2021. During his time at Ardrey Kell, he was named Conference Coach of the Year eight times. Coach William’s philosophy includes teaching lifelong lessons and gaining lifelong relationships through the sport of swimming, and he is committed to development of swimmers both in and out of the water.  William earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of North Carolina…Go Heels! Coach William lives in Waxhaw with his wife, Holly, and their two dogs, Miller and Murphey.

Kate Johnson Matthews Gold 2, Gold 3

Coach Kate joined TEAM in 2022. Coach Kate oversees our Homeschool program, and leads our Gold Division groups in Matthews, along with assisting with our Pre-Senior 2 group. Kate started swimming at 12, and qualified for Olympic Trials as a 15 year old in the 100 Butterfly. She went on to swim and play water polo collegiately at Saddleback College in Southern California and the University of Wyoming, where she was an All-American. She was also an ocean lifeguard in Laguna Beach for 8 years before moving to Charlotte. Kate currently also coaches Varsity Swimming at Carmel Christian School, and coaches summer swim at Sardis Forest Swim Club. She has coached all levels of swimming from beginners to age groupers, and also has experience working with swimmers with special needs. Kate’s four kids, Gavin, Cameron, Emery, and Jojo, all swim for TEAM.
