Who are the Mandan Marlins?

The Mandan Marlins is a competitive swim club. The Marlins is run by parents of the swimmers and is affiliated with the National USA Swimming Organization www.usaswimming.org. Swimmers are between the ages of 6 and 18.

When can I join the team?

There are two times a year when the Marlins take on new swimmers: October and May. If you have just moved to the area and are transferring teams, come try us out any time of the year!

Is there a fee for swimming with the Marlins?

Yes. For the 2022-2023 Course Season, there is a one time $78 USA Swimming Registration Fee per swimmer as well as a $75 Mandan Marlins Fee per swimmer. Families also pay monthly tuition ranging between $65 for beginning swimmers and $80 for senior swimmers for 4 months to cover team expenses. Discounts are available for multiple swimmers from the same family (refer to handbook for more information).

How are the Marlins Funded?

The Marlins are funded through the monthly membership fees, local business sponsorhips, and our annual Swim-A-Thon.

What is a "Short Course Season"?

The "Short Course Season" is the main season of the year, lasting 24 weeks from October through March. It is called "Short Course" because the pool length is "short" at 25 yards.

What is a "Long Course Season"?

The "Long Course Season" is a 12-week season in the summer from May through July. The pool length is 50 meters, which is Olympic length.

What equipment does my swimmer need?

All swimmers will need goggles. Caps are helpful for swimmers with long hair. A one piece suit is necessary for practices and meets. Team suits are not required but may be purchased at the swimmers expense. In addition, certain training equipment is required, depending upon the level of swimmer. These items are available in our online Swim Outlet Mandan Marlins team store.

Do all swimmers need to participate in meets?

No. A swimmer may be a part of the Mandan Marlins without participating in meets, although they are encouraged. The Marlins host one or two meets per season. The swimmers who have eligible times will participate in the State Championship Meet. Meets are also sponsored by other clubs around North Dakota. We often attend meets in Bismarck, Jamestown, Minot, Dickinson, Williston, and Fargo. Watch for more information on upcoming meets on our website. You can check meet schedules and results at the ND Swimming website.
