Age Range:

2nd & 3rd Grade

Entrance Criteria:

Complete all Mini Dragon competition expectations

Can legally complete a 25 dolphin kick

Understands breaststroke fundamentals

Is able to dive in a streamline position either off the side or the blocks

Can complete a freestyle flip turn and an open turn

Knows IM order and understands legal IM transitions

Legal finishes in all four strokes

Understands circle swimming and lane etiquette

Knows how to read a pace clock and leave five seconds apart

Practices:

3-4 x per week

Practice 

Expectations:

Start & finish on the wall at all times 

Execute circle swimming within the lane

Begin to learn how to leave the wall on an interval without the coach’s “go”

Complete sets with certain intervals

Introduce 2-3 drills for each stroke (refer to drill list)

Legal turns, underwater dolphin kicks, and legal pullouts off every wall

Competition:

Intrasquad meets, USA Swimming competitions, goal is to qualify for Regionals or Silvers

Competition Expectations:

Year 1: complete legal 25 FR/BK/BR and 50 FR/BK/BR

Year 2: complete legal 25s and 50s of all strokes, 100 IM, and 100 FR  *may try 200 FR if desired

Exit Criteria:

Complete all competition expectations

Has knowledge of and can execute 2-3 drills for each stroke

Knows basic intervals and knowledge of using a pace clock

Can count laps correctly

Understands rules of competition (ie long whistle means get on block)

Can complete a racing start off the block and knows a relay start

Swimmers will either move on to Voyagers or earn a spot on the CRA rec team.
