This past weekend EST sent a group of 15 swimmers to the Connecticut Short Course Senior Championships. It was a great opportunity to swim against new competition and to represent EST outside of the New England LSC. The meet was very fast and it took a sectional cut in most events to have a chance to make finals. In the last day of action the 9-10 age group the girls 200 free relay Megan Reich, Julia Wagner, Megan Metivier and Elizabeth Bencze posted a 2:10.69 which placed them 16th overall. Brady Dixon lead the way in the 50 back by dropping 2 seconds and moving up into scoring position with a 35.55. The times have continued to drop at 12 & Unders. Starting with the 200 free relay the 11-12 girls (Eliana Fleischer, Sutton Corzatt, Chloe Couture and Emily Metivier) combined for a 1:58.13. In the boys side Thomas, Tony, Andrew and Max posted a 1:45.76 which placed them third and broke the EST record! EST swimmers started the meet off right, going 3 for 3 in setting team records last night. Emily Metivier started thing off by dropping 19 seconds in her 1000 free (11:31.28) breaking her record of 11:50 .15 set earlier this year and placing 13th overall. Thomas Choquette followed that with a 5 second drop to 11:27.77 which placed him 11th and re-broke his record set at Regionals this year. Day two is in the books, and EST swimmers have continued to rock the pool. Leading off the morning was the boys 11-12 200 Medley relay where the team of Max Reich, Thomas Choquette, Tony Min & Andrew Benson broke a team record that has stood since 1990. Their time of 2:00.99 dropped almost 2 seconds from the former record. Congratulations to our two new 12 & under Age Group qualifiers; Brady Dixon (100 back) and Megan Reich (50 back) both achieved their first Age Group Standards at the RAYS meet this past weekend!
Congratulations to Brydie Olofson for making her first Age Group cut at our dual meet vs ESC. She swam a 1:38.43 in the 100 breast to qualify for 9yr old girls. Amazingly this was her first time ever swimming the event. Way to go Brydie!
Last week New England swimming posted the current top 10 list and 8 EST swimmers have made the cut. Swimmers have until August to earn a spot on the list and a trip to the NE awards banquet in October so keep racing fast! This weekend EST swimmers were split between two trial / final meets. There we 25 swimmers who went to Wheaton college for the Winter Solstice Classic and 10 Swimmers who attended the New England Senior Championship. Between the two meets there were 165 best times, 18 swimmers who earned a spot at finals and eight new team records!
