This Wednesday Connar Patterson will be traveling to Greensboro North Carolina to compete in the 2013 USA swimming Junior Nationals. This meet brings the best 18 & under swimmers in the country together for three days of extremely fast swimming. EST swimmers kicked off the WPI meet with a great distance session on Friday night. Ethan Thompson led the way setting both the 1000 (12:20) and 1650 (20:31) records for the 11-12 boys. On the 11-12 girls side Emily Metivier broke the 1000 free by 10 seconds (12:21.63). Zach Bishop added the 4th record of the evening with his 17:23.93 in the 1650. Congratulations to the following swimmers who achieved New England Swimming top 6 recognition: Andrew Benson, Zachary Bishop,Thomas Choquette, Kellen Gray, Tony Min,Cj Patterson,Maxwell Reich and Ethan Thompson. To earn this, each of these swimmers had to place in the top 6 of an individual event out of all New England swimmers. CJ Patterson was also chosen as an Outstanding Swimmer; only 3 swimmers per age group earn this honor each year. Great job and Go EST!

The final day of swimming included some very exciting races to cap off a great 4 day meet. Starting off with the 200 Back Meghan Gray dropped 2.8 seconds to finish in 2:32.98. CJ Patterson finished 4th overall in 2:12.86 and Kellen Gray was 7th in 2:15.91. In the 100 Free both Kellen (57.19) and Zach (57.49) went personal bests dropping 1.2 and .25 seconds respectively. The third day of competition started off with the 200 IM. Hannah Deschenes started things off by dropping three seconds off her time and qualifying for finals in 15th place (2:35.87). On the boys side CJ Patterson qualified for the “A” final in 2:12.07. That time cut more than 4 seconds off of his personal best. Friday proved to be another successful day for EST at the New England 13-19 Age Group Championships. The day started off with the 100 butterfly: Sam (1:04.28), Patrick (1:02.06), Zach (1:00.95) and CJ (59.04) all had personal bests in the prelim session with Kellen and CJ qualifying for finals. In the finals Kellen posted a personal best (59.65) to win his heat and finish 9th and CJ also posted another personal best to finish 3rd overall in 57.81. This first night of swimming for EST at the NE age Group championship was exceptional with two swims resulting in four team records. In the boys 800 freestyle Zach bishop placed 11th overall in 8:55.47. Zach not only broke the 800 free record but also broke the 400 free in 4:23.53. After the distance session the boys 4 x 200 free relay broke the team record by 41 seconds! Their time of 8:13.42 placed them 6th overall.
