ART ZAWODNY HEAD COACH

Art began swimming competitively at age 11, swimming for the Lakeland Hills and Randolph Area YMCAs. With multiple Y National and HS State Championship appearances, Art finished out his career swimming for Rider University specializing in backstroke events. Prior to joining BAC, he coached at Blue Eagle in Nazareth PA, working with all levels of swimmers from 9/10s to USA Swimming Junior National qualifiers.

Zawodny’s coaching career brings valuable experience and knowledge from coaching at the national, regional, and age-group levels. His keen eye for stroke mechanics first will continue to build upon the existing culture of excellence. BAC will continue to foster an inclusive, fun environment focused on offering each athlete, regardless of their abilities,  the opportunity to reach their potential while instilling valuable life lessons that carry on long after their swimming careers have ended.

ALLISON COLLINS COACH

Allison Collins has been a part of the BAC family since 2013, starting as a swim instructor and lifeguard. Being under the wings of Towney, the director of the Berkeley Swim School at the time, the experience was very rewarding. Not only did she learn about the importance of swimming technique, but how to master the skill of the critical eye, which was essential for her development of becoming an exceptional swim instructor/swim coach.

Her swimming career started as a swim instructor at the Plainfield High School in 2000. She then went to Fairleigh Dickinson University and graduated with a BA in Psychology. She then returned to her alma mater and coached for the Plainfield High School where the swimmers placed in states every year.

Allison has experience as a swim instructor for all ages starting from 8 weeks old and a swim coach for ages starting from 5 years old to high school students. She acquired multiple certifications. She is certified as a Trained Pool Operator, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer/Lifeguard for American Red Cross, and USA Swim Coach. She also a member of the American Swimming Coach Association (ASCA).

JEANETTE KARE COACH

Jeanette is a certified elementary school educator out of Penn State University (2007). She completed a master’s degree in early childhood education from Kean University (2011), working as a teacher and assistant director at public schools, early childhood centers, and summer camps across New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Growing up as a 3-season athlete in softball, basketball, and soccer, Jeanette also trained in gymnastics, dance, and swimming with professional coaches.  Her passion for helping young children use multiple intelligences and competencies to achieve in all areas of learning led her to becoming a full-time USA Gymnastics professional coach in 2014.  She has coached hundreds of competitive gymnasts to State and Regional Championships!  Although never formally competing as a swimmer, Jeanette always spent hours in the water every summer and considers lap swimming one of her favorite “grown-up” sports to practice (as well as snowboarding, biking, and disc golf!).

Jeanette gravitated back towards the pool in 2021, when she heard about the lifeguard shortage that was preventing an elderly family member from being able to participate in much-needed aquatic therapy.  She’s excited to use her deep knowledge of developmentally appropriate instructional techniques and creativity in athletic skill development with young athletes here at the BAC!
