ALLISON COLLINS HEAD COACH

Allison is entering her second year as Head Coach of Berkeley Aquatic Club.  An attendee at the 2024 EZ/SZ Select Camp, Allison has been a part of the BAC family since 2013, starting as a swim instructor and lifeguard. Being under the wings of Towney, the director of the Berkeley Swim School at the time, the experience was very rewarding. Not only did she learn about the importance of swimming technique, but how to master the skill of the critical eye, which was essential for her development of becoming an exceptional swim instructor/swim coach.

Her swimming career started as a swim instructor at the Plainfield High School in 2000. She then went to Fairleigh Dickinson University and graduated with a BA in Psychology. She then returned to her alma mater and coached for the Plainfield High School where the swimmers placed in states every year.

Allison has experience as a swim instructor for all ages starting from 8 weeks old and a swim coach for ages starting from 5 years old to high school students. She acquired multiple certifications. She is certified as a Trained Pool Operator, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer/Lifeguard for American Red Cross, and USA Swim Coach. She also a member of the American Swimming Coach Association (ASCA).

We are appreciative of Allison's calm deadmenour alongside her systemic approach to athlete development.

JEANETTE KARE COACH

Jeanette is a certified elementary school educator out of Penn State University (2007). She completed a master’s degree in early childhood education from Kean University (2011), working as a teacher and assistant director at public schools, early childhood centers, and summer camps across New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Growing up as a 3-season athlete in softball, basketball, and soccer, Jeanette also trained in gymnastics, dance, and swimming with professional coaches.  Her passion for helping young children use multiple intelligences and competencies to achieve in all areas of learning led her to becoming a full-time USA Gymnastics professional coach in 2014.  She has coached hundreds of competitive gymnasts to State and Regional Championships!

In her second year at BAC, Coach Jeanette is a full-time USA Swimming-Certified Coach, specializing in Dryland Training, creating unique workouts geared toward each age group and swim level.  She works with coaches to integrate these training techniques into everyday practice, plus offers clinics with an array of fun exercise equipment rarely found at other youth swim clubs.  Jeanette is also a Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, where she finds creative ways to teach complex hands-on skills.

Jeanette is an outstanding communicator and her ability to connect with athletes is second to none.  We're excited to have Jeanette back on the pool deck again for 2025-26!!

TOMMY GONNELLA COACH

Tommy swam at BAC from 1994-2002, from ages 10-18, before continuing his swimming career at Amherst College. There, Tommy was the captain of the swimming and water polo teams, and was all-conference in both sports.

Tommy has great memories of his time swimming at BAC, of the friendships he made while as a swimmer here, and is especially appreciative to have learned the value of dedication & commitment, 2 core values of BAC, while swimming at BAC as a kid. As a BAC swimmer, he loved going to the Buffalo meet each year, as well as countless meets at Rutgers, including one where he won the High Point award at the NJ Junior Olympics (now the Gold Championship meet). Now, as a "swim dad", Tommy is passionate about stroke mechanics to help kids swim fast and wants to help BAC swimmers develop a love for the water and for moving fast through it!

Tommy has great memories of his childhood coach, Jim Wood, the founder of BAC, who had a huge impact on his life, and the lives of his teammates & friends. He's very excited to honor Jim by coaching at BAC, and to help the swimmers learn to love the sport like he did, and to help them achieve their goals!

We are always thrilled when our former athletes return to GIVE BACk and ensure the legacy continues for future generations of Berkeley athletes!
