💡 Athlete Development Corner: Developing the “IT” Factor
You are human — an imperfect competitor learning more about yourself through every race and practice. From a competition standpoint, understanding your “IT Factor” is what gives you an edge — the ability to use your emotions, thoughts, and decisions to work for you rather than against you.
The Competitive Magic
Your preparation — how you train, eat, rest, and approach each workout — is the foundation for success. The harder and smarter you train, the stronger this foundation becomes. However, preparation alone doesn’t guarantee success.
The greatest athletes in the world recognize that they themselves are the ultimate intangible — the IT Factor — that transforms preparation into performance.
Athletes who possess the IT Factor:
-
Stay composed in both easy and challenging moments.
-
Maintain low expectations but high standards for their process.
-
View each race as a learning experience, not a test.
-
Trust their preparation rather than relying on hope.
Training is your investment; competition is where you draw on that investment. Great athletes perform with confidence because they’ve built a strong foundation and trust in it — they know they’ve earned it.
Developing your IT Factor means believing in your preparation, embracing challenges, and maintaining faith in your process — not just when things go well, but especially when they don’t.
