Two Big Meets One Great Weekend Of Swimming
Congratulations to all swimmers who participated in the Greater Southwest Meet and the Arlington Aquatic Club Meet this weekend. Like so many swimmers in the area we spent many days off last week leading into the meet with the winter storm causing havoc. It was an unknow how we would do because of this. However, our swimmers stepped up and did a great job achieving many new best times.
We want to send a special congratulations to Ally Wangler, a member of our Age Group 2 group. Ally achieved her 1st ever 9-10 yr old TAGS qualifying time this weekend in the 50-breaststroke going a blistering :38.53. Way to Go Ally!!
Meet Sign-Up Deadlines – Sign-up NOW so you don’t forget!!

- Senior Cup Championship (15 & Over): February 6, 2026
- TAGS Championships (Qualified Only): February 13th, 2026
Education Corner: Participation in Swim Meets — Looking Ahead
Our goal is for all our swimmers to participate in swim meets. Research and experience show that swimmers who compete in three or more meets per season are much more likely to continue in the sport compared to those who participate in fewer meets.
As a competitive program, we want every swimmer to have the opportunity to gain valuable experience, build confidence, and celebrate their progress. With only one meet remaining for most swimmers this season, we have noticed that some athletes have participated in one or fewer meets. We would love to see more of our swimmers take advantage of these opportunities next season.
We understand that parents may feel hesitant to register for meets due to uncertainties such as:
- “Is my child ready?”
- “Does my child qualify?”
- “I’m not sure how it works.”
These are excellent and very common questions. We don’t want these concerns to prevent swimmers from experiencing competition and growth. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.
1. Is My Swimmer Ready to Compete?
Yes — they are ready.
Our coaching staff carefully selects events that match each swimmer’s skill level and readiness. Some swimmers may start with only a couple events per day, and that is perfectly fine. Every race is an opportunity to learn and improve.
If you have any questions about your swimmer’s readiness, please reach out to their lead coach. We are always happy to help guide you.
2. Does My Child Qualify?
This is a great and very common question.
Many swim meets in Texas require specific time standards, whether faster than or slower than a certain benchmark. These standards help place swimmers in appropriate competitive levels.
On our website, you can find the “Time Standards Achieved” link in the top toolbar. This page lists each swimmer’s best times and corresponding standards (B, BB, A, AA, AAA, AAAA).
- “B” is the entry-level standard
- Standards progress up to “AAAA”
If your swimmer has not yet competed in a meet, they should begin with meets listed as “BB and Below.”
Each meet’s qualifying standards are listed on its event page on our website. This page contains all relevant information. If you are ever unsure, please contact your swimmer’s lead coach for guidance.
3. What Should Parents Do After Registering?
We strongly encourage families to begin with one of our hosted meets before attending away meets. Hosted meets take place in familiar facilities, helping swimmers feel more comfortable and confident.
After registering on the event page (you must be logged into our website to register):
- You will receive additional information by email and through the event page. Details such as warm-up times, schedules, and meet logistics are typically posted 3–7 days before the first day of competition.
- Your swimmer’s events will be posted once the coaching staff completes entries, usually about two weeks before the meet, in the same location where you registered.
Our Commitment to Your Swimmer
Swim meets are a vital part of athletic development. They help swimmers:
- Build confidence
- Set goals
- Learn sportsmanship
- Track progress
- Develop lifelong skills
Our coaching staff is committed to supporting every swimmer and family throughout the process. If you ever have questions, concerns, or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
We look forward to seeing more of our swimmers competing, growing, and enjoying the sport together!
